Places to visit in Chennai
- Guindy National Park: On day one, I visited the renowned Guindy National Park, which was 8.9 km away from our hotel, an urban haven for nature enthusiasts. Guindy National Park’s fame as one of the 8th-smallest National Parks in India added a unique dimension to his visit. There is no entry fee for kids below ten; for children above ten, it is Rs. 5, and for adults, it is Rs. 15. The park is an extension of Raj Bhavan’s grounds, known as ‘Guindy Lodge’, the governor’s residence in Tamil Nadu, India, featuring forests, scrub lands, lakes, and streams. The day concluded with a leisurely walk through the local markets, where I indulged in the vibrant street food scene of Chennai.
- Arulmigu Marundeeswarar Temple: Day two dawned with a visit to the divine Arulmigu Marundeeswarar Temple, known for its architectural splendour and spiritual significance. The temple features two seven-tiered towers, a large tank, and spans 1 acre. Marundeeswarar Temple is known for its healing worship. It conducts six daily rituals from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and hosts twelve annual festivals.
- Marina Beach: After that, we headed to the iconic Marina Beach, especially enchanting in the evening, taking the convenient train to reach these destinations. Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff renovated Chennai Marina Beach in the 1880s. A must-visit for tourists, it turns into a lively fairground in the evening with stalls offering artefacts, handcrafted items, ethnic jewellery, and food. The evening was spent exploring the lively markets near Marina Beach, savouring local street delicacies.
Best Time to Visit and Tips for Travellers:
Chennai’s vibrant charm is best experienced from November to February when the weather is pleasant.
Must try food in Chennai
Exploring the local markets and trying street food specialities like Murukku to the sweetness of Mysore Pak, Sundal, and Atho added a delightful touch to his Chennai experience.

- For street shopping, you can choose Thyagaraya Nagar and Pondy Bazaar, Ranganathan Street, Sowcarpet, Ritchie Street, etc.
