Hello, travel bees, Priya here !!!
In the heart of India’s capital, I started on an exciting two-day journey to Delhi. Join me to see architectural marvels, crowded shopping markets, and mouth watering street food in Delhi.
Route to Delhi:
The journey started with an affordable train ride from Jharkhand to Delhi, costing just Rs. 1500 per person.
Where to stay in Delhi:
Hotel S B INN Paharganj, offering comfort at an affordable Rs. 1000 per night, was a comfortable stay and is a perfect place to stay to see Delhi’s attractions.
A two-day itinerary trip to Delhi
- Day 1: Exploring the Majestic Red Fort (Lal Qila)
The journey started with a visit to the iconic Red Fort, which was 5 kilometres away from my hotel. We took a cab to reach the place. Before entering the Red Fort, we bought tickets for Rs. 250 to explore this historical marvel. The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is celebrated for its stunning architecture and historical significance. Standing tall as a symbol of India’s rich past, the fort tells tales of Mughal grandeur, which Emperor Shah Jahan called the construction of the Red Fort on May 12, 1639. Nearby Red Fort, you can see Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. After that, I walked through the lively Chandni Chowk market to have flavorful Delhi street food treats.
- Day 2: Marvelling at Qutub Minar and India Gate
On the second day, I visited the glorious Qutub Minar, followed by the grandeur of India Gate. It was 15 km away from our hotel, so we again took a cab for the tour to Delhi. The entry tickets cost Rs. 250 to watch Qutub Minar, and there is no cost for India Gate. Qutub Minar, an impressive monument Qutub Minar, at 73 metres (240 feet) tall, has been India’s tallest minaret for over 800 years. This place was built by Qutb Ud-Din-Aibak, the founder of the Delhi Sultanate and it stands as one of Delhi’s proudest and most imposing icons.
India Gate is a war memorial that honours fallen soldiers and is a great picnic spot for tourists. You can also enjoy a boat ride and a delicious street field.
There is so much more to explore nearby, like Connaught Places, Janpath Market, Jantar Mantar, Bangla Sahib, and much more.
Hidden flea markets in Delhi
I explored street markets like Sarojini Nagar, known for trendy fashion at budget-friendly prices, and savoured street food delights.
Must try the food on a trip to Delhi.
- In Chandni Chowk market, visit Paranthe Wali Gali, famous for all types of parathas you have on your favourite lists.
- In Sarojini Market, you can enjoy eating golgappas and Kathi rolls.
The Best Time to Visit Delhi:
The ideal time to experience Delhi’s charm is during the winter months, from October to March when the weather is pleasant.
Tips for travellers:
- I recommend fellow travellers explore local markets like Janpath for souvenirs and Dilli Haat for handicrafts.
- Carry warm clothes for winter and light clothes for summer.
- Carry sunglasses and sunscreen lotions.
- A first-aid kit is a must-have.
- Take cabs for longer distances and auto rickshaws for short distances.
As my adventure comes to an end, Delhi has left unforgettable memories on our souls, reminding us of the captivating beauty and diversity India has to offer.
