Hello wanderlusts,
I am Labhanshi on this side. I would love to share a great travel experience to Delhi. Embarking on a journey from Bangalore to Delhi was a revelation that unfolded at 30,000 feet. My flight, a mere 5000 rupees after ensuring the student discount, marked the beginning of a journey through the Capital of India.
Delhi, a sprawling tapestry of cultures and histories, demands more than a fleeting visit. I believe a person traveling to Delhi requires at least 7-8 days to explore the entire Union territory. Also, Delhi is filled with students from all over India because of the very famous University of Delhi.
Day 1: Exploring Timeless Majnu ka Tila Charms
My journey commenced at Majnu ka Tila, an enclave overflowing with Tibet immigrants. Venture here for a unique shopping spree, though heed caution bargaining is useless in these galleries.
Yet, Majnu ka Tila is a haven for Korean snacks and boasts charming cafes like AMA CAFÉ, DOLMA CAFÉ, and the HIMALAYAN COFFEE HOUSE.
Don’t miss out on WAI WAI LAUGHING—it’s the local favorite.
Day 2: Basking in History and Heritage in Safdarjung Tomb & Lodhi GardenÂ
Metro-hopping from Rajiv Chowk Station to Jor Bagh Station and arriving at the mystical Safdarjung Tomb—a monument often overshadowed by its more famed counterparts. A photographer’s dream and a serene retreat, Safdarjung Tomb is a hidden gem awaiting discovery. Very few people visit Safdarjung’s tomb as it’s not as famous as Humayun’s tomb(walking distance from Safdarjung).
Next on the agenda was Lodhi Garden, a picturesque blend of greenery and historic tombs, ideal for both photographers and those seeking peace.
Day 3: Old Delhi Unveiled
I went to Old Delhi on the third day, and have to tell you that this location is unique and hard to describe. Pranthe Wali Gali in Chandni Chowk, though slightly reduced in food quality, remains a must-visit for its legendary parathas. Chandni Chowk, a vibrant shopping hub, is a treasure trove for ethnic wear enthusiasts.
Venturing deeper into the old houses reveals the soul of the city, each house narrating a unique tale. Jama Masjid, once exclusive, now women can enter the masjid, offering to see minar of the Jama masjid from where you can have the most mesmerizing view of old Delhi for a mere Rs. 50.
The jama masjid area is an ideal place for non-vegetarian eaters. Also, indulge your taste buds in the flavors of Old Delhi at Kareem’s and Quereshi, where the iconic Chicken 65 steals the show. Don’t miss the Chuski at the Mela behind the Red Fort.
As I bid goodbye to Delhi, That was the end of my trip. Got back to Bangalore via flight. My overall experience of Delhi (the Capital of India) is that it never lets you down, in my opinion, and there’s always something to suit your interests.
Best Food & Accommodation in Delhi :
I chose to stay at my relative’s house during my visit.
- However, alternative accommodations are available for different preferences. Zostel, ideal for solo or young travelers, comes at a cost of around 500 rupees per night.Â
- On the other hand, Airbnb provides options suitable for families or those without budget constraints, with prices averaging around 1500 rupees per night.Â
I do not recommend opting for an OYO room, as they are shady now.
My favorites among all the cafes in Majnu Ka Tilla :
- AMA CAFÉ
- DOLMA CAFÉ
- Â HIMALAYAN COFFEE HOUSE
- Â Parathe wali Gali, Chandni Chowk (famous for its parathas
- One must visit Kareem’s and Quereshi for their chicken, his Chicken 65 is one of my favorites and is a must-try.
- The watermelon sharbat is also great and the person selling the sharbat also gives a refill for free out of love.
- One can also visit the mela behind the Red Fort where Chuski is a must-try as Delhi – 6’s water hits differently.
Quick Tips:
- Must-Visit Spots: Majnu ka Tila, Old Delhi (Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid), Safdarjung Tomb, Lodhi Garden.
- Hidden Gem: Safdarjung Tomb.
- Essentials: Sunscreen, especially during Delhi’s extreme summers.
- Budget: A comfortable journey within 15 thousand rupees (using the metro).

Important Travel Tips to Delhi
- The most convenient way of traveling around Delhi is the metro which is also quite inexpensive.Â
- However one can also travel via train but it would take around 30-37 hours depending upon the train
Thank you for being part of my journey! PS: Grab some Itra near Jama Masjid—it’s a sensory delight!
