Hello, fellow travellers!!! I’m Supriya, and I’m excited to share the incredible story of our 3-day duo trip to the heart of India and its capital, Delhi. Our journey was packed with history, culture, and delicious street food. Come along as we dive into the lively capital city.
Best Accommodation in Delhi
Our Delhi adventure started at the cosy Hotel Comfort Inn, conveniently located near the iconic Red Fort, Chandni Chowk shopping market, and Connaught Place. At just Rs. 1300 per night, it was a comfortable and affordable place for us to begin our exploration.
Places to visit in Delhi:
Day 1: A Date with History
After checking in, we went straight to the Red Fort. We took a rickshaw for a 4.5-kilometre ride to reach this iconic spot. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its stunning architecture and rich history.
Emperor Shah Jahan started building the Red Fort on May 12, 1638, when he moved his capital from Agra to Delhi. The fort was originally red and white, which were Shah Jahan’s favourite colours. Its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also built the Taj Mahal. The fort sits beside the Yamuna River, which used to fill the canals around most of its walls.
Day 2: Exploring Spiritual Sanctuaries
- Lotus Temple: Our second day was peaceful and spiritual. We began by visiting the beautiful Lotus Temple. This special Bahá’í House of Worship is well-known for its stunning lotus-shaped design and calm atmosphere.
- Kalka ji Temple: The respected Kalkaji Temple was only a short auto rickshaw ride away, about 5 kilometres. This old temple is dedicated to the goddess Kali and is really important to devotees.
- Akshardham Temple: After getting blessings at Kalka Ji Temple, we went to the vast and spiritually captivating Akshardham Temple. This amazing place displays traditional Indian art, culture, and spirituality in a modern way. It’s huge, standing 43 metres (141 ft) tall, 96 metres (316 ft) wide, and stretching 109 metres (356 ft) long. The temple is beautifully decorated with plants, animals, dancers, musicians, and gods. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna River.
After exploring Akshardham, we went back to our comfy spot at Hotel Comfort Inn in a cab, enjoying the ease of private travel.
Later, we wandered around the markets near Akshardham Temple and treated ourselves to yummy street snacks like golgappas and chole bhature.
Day 3: The Delights of Central Delhi
Our last day was all about exploring the heart of Delhi.
- Connaught Place (CP): We began our day at lively CP, a hub for shopping and eating out. Its circular layout is unique, and it’s well-known for its lively vibe and fancy shops.
- National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA): We took a short cab ride of about 3.5 kilometres to the National Gallery of Modern Art. Here, we engage ourselves in the world of contemporary Indian art and culture.
As our quick trip ended, we looked back on our unforgettable adventure in Delhi. The city embraced us warmly and gave us loads of memories to cherish.
