Hello travel lovers! My name is Aditi, and I love travelling. Recently, I visited Ujjain, the city of Mahakal, and it truly radiates a unique energy. Also, Ujjain stole my heart. I went with a friend, so let me take you through our journey from Noida.
How do I travel to Ujjain?

We booked a cab and reached Hazratganj Nizamuddin Railway Station, where our train was scheduled to depart. Also, the train ticket cost us around INR 1,100 per person, which was a decent amount. Moreover, we caught our train at 5 p.m. and arrived in the sacred city of Ujjain at 9 a.m. the next day.
We booked our hotel room in advance for INR 2,200 a night. After checking in, we freshened up, enjoyed breakfast, and then headed out to discover the city.
Things to do in Ujjain:

- Spiritual Start at Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple
Our first stop was the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. A holy place for Lord Shiva and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It was just a short rickshaw ride away, 2 km from the hotel. The temple was incredible—full of energy and a spiritual feeling. We also saw the Bhasma Aarti ceremony, which was amazing, and left us feeling connected to divine energy.
- Peaceful vibes at Kal Bhairav Temple
Our next stop was Kal Bhairav Temple, a 15-minute auto ride 3.5 km from Mahakaleshwar. This temple is dedicated to Kal Bhairav, a powerful form of Lord Shiva. We also saw the interesting custom of offering liquor to the deity. Even though Kal Bhairav is powerful, the temple itself is peaceful and calming.

- Giant Ganesha at Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir
After that, it was time for Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir, a quick rickshaw ride 1.5 km from Kal Bhairav. This temple is known for its huge idol of Lord Ganesha, and we also saw a statue of Panchmukhi Hanuman there. The peaceful darshan filled us with positivity and devotion.
- Enchanted Evening Aarti at Ram Ghat
We went to Ram Ghat for the evening Aarti, just a short 10-minute auto ride from Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir. Also, the Diyas floating on the Kshipra River made the atmosphere magical. After the Aarti, we enjoyed some delicious local street food like kachoris and chaat. It was an unforgettable experience, and this is how we ended our first day in Ujjain.
- Following Krishna’s Steps to Sandipani Ashram
Hidden Gem in Ujjain: Next, we woke up and got ready to see Sandipani Ashram. After a 20-minute auto ride, we reached Sandipani Ashram, located just 6 km away from our hotel. This ashram was where Lord Krishna received his education, and the peaceful environment and historical significance made our visit truly unforgettable. We soaked in the peaceful and spiritual essence of the place, enjoying some peaceful moments there.
- Enjoying Temples and Serenity with a Boat Ride
After taking in the peaceful vibes of the ashram, we went on a boat ride on the Kshipra River. Also, that was just 4 km away from Sandipani Ashram and a quick 15-minute auto ride. The view from the boat was stunning, with temples along the riverbanks and the calm water creating a peaceful atmosphere. Moreover, it was a great way to enjoy the natural beauty of Ujjain.
