Namaste travellers! Welcome back to another adventure with Jai, your travel buddy. Today, let’s start on a spiritual journey to the enchanting city of Ujjain, where ancient traditions blend seamlessly with modern experiences.
Places to visit in Ujjain
- Kaal Bhairav Mandir:
Our first stop on this divine odyssey is the renowned Shri Kaal Bhairav Mandir. Known for its mystical aura and unique rituals, this temple offers an unforgettable experience. Devotees, including me, truly participate in the sacred tradition of offering alcohol to Lord Shri Kaal Bhairav. It was a very unique experience for me, though.
One of the highlights of the temple is the pillar adorned with over a hundred diyas. Devotees place coins on this pillar, symbolising their wishes and prayers. As the evening approaches, the atmosphere becomes charged with enthusiasm. At precisely 6:30 PM, volunteers climb the pillar to light the diyas with the sounds of conch shells, drums, and trumpets. It’s a sight and sound that leaves me with goosebumps, to be honest.
- Shri Mahakaal Mandir:
To explore the spiritual treasures of Ujjain, I recommend hiring an autorickshaw. For a reasonable fee of Rs. 150, you can travel to the city and visit iconic landmarks such as the Shri Mahakaal Mandir and the serene Shipra River. From the bustling streets to the tranquil temple precincts, every corner of Ujjain beckons with its unique charm. It takes 20 minutes from Kaal Bhairav Mandir to Mahakaal Mandir (not walking distance).
- Harsiddhi Temple:
Don’t miss the Harsiddhi Temple, a mere stone’s throw away from the Shri Mahakaal Mandir. The peaceful vibes at 6 p.m. surround you with a feeling of peace, excitement, happiness, and blessings everywhere. Harsiddhi temple is just 1km away from Mahakaleshwar. So you can go there in just a 5-minute walk.
Accommodation in Ujjain
As a solo traveller, I discovered solace in the simplicity of Ujjain’s accommodations. The Dharmshala near the Harsiddhi Temple offers a budget-friendly and comfortable stay, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the spiritual ambience of the city. It is very close to Shri Mahakaal Mandir and the Shipra River as well, so you can easily visit.
Best food to try in Ujjain
Let me not forget about the best food delights that await me in Ujjain, Jalebi Fafda, Chiwda, and Poha as you explore the city streets. With delectable treats at every turn, your taste buds are in for a delightful journey of their own.
Best time to visit Ujjain
I visited in February, and that is the ideal month to travel. From November to February, Ujjain experiences winter, with temperatures dropping notably. The weather becomes pleasant, making it the perfect time to visit Ujjain’s tourist attractions.
Travel tips:
- Carry your own food and water bottle.
- Don’t talk to strangers, but get engaged with local people.
- It will be good if you respect the traditional culture of the temples with traditional clothing.
Until next time, fellow travellers, keep exploring, keep wandering, and keep the spirit of adventure alive.
