How to reach Uttarkashi?
We set out from Delhi on our adventure to Uttarkashi, travelling along the picturesque roads of Uttarakhand via NH44. The journey covered approximately 420 kilometres, taking us through Rishikesh and Tehri. Also, along the way, we were treated to stunning vistas of the Shivalik ranges and the majestic Ganges River, making the entire trip truly memorable. Moreover, the round trip’s fuel expenses were estimated to be around Rs. 5,000, varying based on the vehicle’s fuel efficiency and prevailing fuel rates.
Places Covered in Uttarkashi:
- Gangotri National Park: You’ll find rare creatures like blue sheep, black bears, brown bears, Himalayan monals, snowcocks, Himalayan tahrs, musk deer, and even snow leopards there.
- Kuteti Devi Temple: It is a historic Hindu shrine in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Dedicated to Goddess Kuteti Devi, an incarnation of Durga. Although situated at 1,615 metres above sea level, amidst lush green forests.
- Vishwanath Temple: an ancient Hindu temple in Uttarkashi dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built by the Parmar dynasty in the 8th century. Also, known for intricate carvings, it is revered as a sacred site.
- Bhagirathi River: The Bhagirathi River holds immense religious importance, particularly among Hindus, who consider it the earthly form of the goddess Ganga.
Hidden Gems Visited in Uttarkashi:
Venturing off the beaten path, we discovered the peaceful beauty of Nachiketa Tal. It is a pristine lake located amidst pine forests. Also, it stumbled upon the secluded charms of Maneri, a picturesque village with cascading waterfalls.
Best Food and Stay in Uttarkashi:
- We enjoyed authentic Garhwali cuisine at local eateries, savouring delicacies like Mandua Roti (Rs. 50), Chainsoo (Rs. 100), and Kafuli (Rs. 80).
- For accommodation, we opted for cosy homestays and guesthouses, offering warm hospitality and stunning mountain vistas. Also, the stay prices varied depending on the type and location, ranging from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000 per night.

When we explored Uttarkashi, we got to see how amazing the Himalayas are up close. Also, we met friendly locals and got to understand how incredible nature is. Moreover, we got to do some yoga and meditation, which helped us feel the spiritual vibe of this special place.
Best Time to Visit Uttarkashi
For an ideal trip to Uttarkashi, plan your visit between March and November. During these months, you’ll enjoy delightful weather with refreshing mornings and comfortably cool nights. Also, if you’re a fan of winter trekking, December to February offers chilly weather perfect for exploring the region’s beauty.

- Pack sturdy hiking boots and warm clothing layers.
- Also, carry sunscreen and a first-aid kit, which were indispensable for our trip.
