Route to Khajuraho
Our journey started in Greater Noida, with a taxi taking us to Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi. After a short half-hour ride, we arrived at the bustling station, excitedly boarding a train bound for Maharaja Chhatrasal. The rhythmic tracks added to our anticipation as we began a 12-hour journey through the heart of India.
When the train arrived at Maharaja Chhatrasal, we were welcomed by the lively sights and sounds of Chhatarpur. Choosing a taxi, we journeyed through the scenic landscape.
Places to visit in Khajuraho
- Khajuraho Temple: Khajuraho, a gem in our pilgrimage, stands as a crown jewel. The temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, unfolded like a tapestry of divine devotion. Dedicated to various deities, the intricate carvings on the sandstone walls depicted scenes from life, love, and spirituality.
- Western Group of Temples: We explored the Western Group of Temples and discovered the essence of Chandela architecture. The Lakshmana Temple, adorned with intricate facades, told stories of Lord Vishnu’s images. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temple, a magnificent towering structure, amazed us with its unique sculptures.
- Eastern and Southern Group: We visited the Eastern and Southern Groups, where we found the sacred Jain temples like the Parsvanatha Temple and the Ghantai Temple. Every temple served as a symbol of the harmonious coexistence of various spiritual beliefs.
Hidden Gem of Khajuraho’s Art:
The sculptures were carefully crafted with detailed precision, capturing a perfect balance between passion and spirituality. Each figure, from celestial nymphs to divine deities, appeared to be alive, suspended in time yet radiating a magical energy.
Chhatarpur is a simple town embracing Khajuraho, revealing its charm. Interacting with the locals, we discovered the artistic heritage of the Chandela dynasty. Their stories, handed down through generations, enriched our understanding of the temple’s historical importance.

If possible, plan your visit to coincide with the Khajuraho Dance Festival in the first week of February.
