In the heart of Mathura, a city rich in mythology and spirituality, I travelled with my travel companion for a three-day trip to explore the sacred sites that echoed the tales of Lord Krishna.
Places to visit in Mathura
- Shri Krishna Janmasthan
Our travels started at the revered Shri Krishna Janmasthan, the birthplace of Lord Krishna. This sacred place is not only a spiritual hub but also a historical treasure trove. The religious atmosphere of the place drew us into its beauty. From our Hotel Myraa Family, we took a short rickshaw ride to the heart of Mathura, where the Janmasthan unfolded its mystical stories. Following our spiritual experience, we explored the lanes of the nearby Vishram Ghat Market. The tempting smell of street food.
- Vishram Ghat
The second day began at Vishram Ghat, a peaceful spot along the Yamuna River where it’s said Lord Krishna rested after defeating the demon Kansa. The calmness of the ghat and the soothing chants created a heavenly atmosphere. A relaxed boat ride, organised by a friendly local, let us vibe in the spiritual vibes from the heart of the river.
- Shree Dwarkadhish Temple
After our peaceful visit, a train ride took us to the Shree Dwarkadhish Temple. This architectural wonder, devoted to Lord Krishna, attracted us with its detailed carvings and spiritual atmosphere. The nearby market delighted us with local treats. On our final day, we also visit the place where devotees seek the divine blessings of Lord Krishna and Radha. A convenient auto ride from our hotel took us to this spiritual haven.
- Kans Qila: A Hidden Gem in Mathura
We also explored Kans Quila on our last day, the ancient fortress associated with the infamous demon king Kansa. A rickshaw ride along Mathura’s narrow lanes offered scenic views of the city, bridging the gap between the temple and the fort.
Best Accommodation in Mathura
Our preferred place for this spiritual experience was the welcoming Hotel Myraa Family, offering comfort at Rs. 1500 per night.
Best Food to Try in Mathura
- In Vishram Ghat Market, we enjoyed hot kachoris and sweet jalebis, which tempted us to indulge in the local flavours.
- In Shree Dwarkadhish Temple, the nearby market delighted us with local treats, such as samosas and refreshing lassi.
The Best Time to Visit Mathura
The best time to experience the spiritual wonders of Mathura is during the winter months, from October to March when the weather is pleasant. Navigating the city is made easy with a combination of rickshaws, autos, and trains, each offering a unique perspective.
Tips for Travellers:
