It is up to each of you where you wish to go initially when traveling to Kashmir. The center of Kashmir, Srinagar, is where our trip begins. You can choose to begin at the peaceful Dal Lake and enjoy the amazing views while floating on a shikara, or you can explore the colorful Mughal gardens such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh. You will be enthralled by Chasme Shahi and Pari Mehal’s charisma.
Best Places to visit in Kashmir :
The places worth visiting apart from the gardens are :
Gulmarg ( Gulmarg is a paradise for winter sports lovers)
Sonamarg
Pahalgam
Doodhpathri
Sonamarg :Meadow of Golden Light
It is a paradise for both winter sports lovers and trekking enthusiasts. Embark on a 7-day horse trek that leads you to pristine 7 lakes nestled in the arms of nature’s grandeur. The adventure is worth every penny, and the memories are priceless. Charges were Rs.1000/person plus food extra.
Pahalgaon has three places of tourist attractions: Liddar Valley, Aru valley, Betaab valley
Horseback riding is available for travelers to explore the valleys in each of these locations.
- Betaab Valley, previously known as Hajan or Hagan Valley, was renamed after the film “Betaab” starring Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh. The cost for a horse ride varies, with an initial asking price of Rs.1500 per person, but negotiation skills can help lower the price. During our visit to Betaab Valley, we had a great horse ride experience where the guide took us to the different filming locations from the movie “Betaab”. Despite being a group of five, we managed to enjoy the ride for just Rs.1500. Although it was enjoyable, the guide hurried through the tour and didn’t show us every place.
- Gulmarg Gondola is a must-try, taking you to the top of Mount Apharwat for breathtaking Himalayan views. Hotel prices in Gulmarg are expensive, starting at Rs.1000 in other places and it costs us Rs.1600. Bargain for a better deal or be aware of taxi drivers’ connections with hoteliers.
- We rented a hotel for four individuals at Liddar Valley in Pahalgam for the sum of Rs.800 per night. It included two double beds, a lovely view of the Liddar Valley, and wooden floors and ceilings.
Doodhpathri is a hidden gem of Kashmir
One should visit Doodhpathri if they enjoy being by themselves. Doodhpathri is an infinite grassland encircled by the snow-capped Pir Panjal mountain and coniferous trees.
Food You Must Try :
Khayam Chowk — the barbecue street of Srinagar
That is the spot to go if you enjoy non-vegetarian food and would want to experience Kashmiri cuisine. We enjoyed Haleem, Kabab, Rhista, and Gustaba. Cafes like Imran Cafeteria, Shahi Darbar, e Sher Khan’s Sher Barbecue Cafeteria, and Gareeb Nawaz are best to try.
Best Time to visit Kashmir
Ideal months to visit Kashmir are from March to August, encompassing the captivating seasons of Spring (March to early May) and Summer (early May to late August). Tourists head to the Kashmir valley during this time to experience its heavenly beauty and enjoy the diverse views.
My five-day journey to Srinagar, the heart of Kashmir, was an enchanting experience filled with breathtaking landscapes, calming houseboat rides, and the warm embrace of the locals.
