Hello, travel enthusiasts!
Join me, Nikita, on my enchanting journey through the picturesque landscapes of Udaipur and Kumbalgarh. From tranquil lakes to majestic forts, she explores the beauty of Rajasthan while cherishing every moment with her mother.
A Journey from Borivali to Udaipur
We boarded the Udaipur Express at 11:55 AM from Borivali and arrived at around 2:00 PM. After getting off the train, we took an auto to Ambrai Ghat for ₹200 as our hotel, Amet Haveli, was there. Once we reached the hotel, we freshened up and decided to make the most of the evening by exploring nearby attractions.
We arranged with the auto driver to take us sightseeing for a fixed price for the duration of our trip, which could vary between ₹500 and ₹1000 depending on the season.
Sunset Serenity and Cultural Delights: A Day 1 Amazing Evening in Udaipur
We began with a serene boat ride and sunset at Fatehsagar Lake, costing about ₹100 per person. Then, we visited Saheliyon Ki Bari, paying ₹30 each. We savoured Pandit Ji’s famous lemon tea there. Later, we headed to Bagore Ki Haveli for a folk dance show, priced at ₹100 each, which we could’ve skipped if we were punctual. Finally, we enjoyed a delightful dinner at Shamiana, a rooftop restaurant, indulging in tasty non-vegetarian dishes.
From Temples to Palaces: A Day 2 of Spiritual Reverence and Historical Grandeur in Udaipur
In the morning, we visited Karni Mata Temple and took a ropeway ride for a stunning view. It was spiritually uplifting. Then, we had lunch at Khamagani Restaurant, enjoying their famous Daal Bati Churma. One serving was enough for us both. After changing at the hotel, we went on a City Palace Tour. Despite exhaustion, the rich history made it worthwhile. The entry fee was ₹800 per person, plus a separate bus ride. After exploring the City Palace market, we indulged in local delicacies at JMB Misthan Bhandar. It was a perfect end to our day in Udaipur.
Relaxed Mornings, Artistic Afternoons, and Culinary Delights: A Leisurely Day 3 in Udaipur
We chilled in the morning because exploring the city palace can be tiring. Then, we went shopping around Gangaur Ghat and Hatipole Market and checked out Sahelion Ki Bari during the day. After that, I attended an art class at Ashoka Arts Udaipur near Gangaur Ghat, which lasted about 3 to 4 hours. We wrapped up the day with a delicious dinner at Ambrai Restaurant, where the food was great and the view was breathtaking.
Journey to Kumbalgarh: Day 4 of Pit Stops, Tips, and Discoveries Along the Way
We left our hotel and drove to Kumbalgarh, with quick stops at Ekling Ji Temple and Nathdwara en route. A tip for Nathdwara: plan your visit carefully, especially after 3:30 pm when they have short opening intervals. Skip the VIP darshan—it’s not worth it, and we missed out due to timing. We also swung by Haldi Ghati, but it’s skippable as it’s small. However, you can find excellent rose water products, itar, syrups, and fresh flowers along the way. Morning visits before 11:00 a.m. are best to avoid crowds.
Retreat and Fortified Majesty: Day 5 at Kumbalgarh
On Day 5, we opted for Club Mahindra at Kumbalgarh for a laid-back morning. In the second half, we explored Kumbalgarh Fort, enjoying the sunset and catching the captivating sound and light show. The show, which costs ₹175 for entry, starts around 6:30 or 7:00 p.m. and lasts for an hour. It’s an enchanting experience conducted in Hindi.
Last-Minute Explorations and Farewell to Udaipur: Day 6 Highlights
On the last day, we had planned to visit Ranakpur, but we had to skip it because of health concerns. Instead, we headed straight to Udaipur since our train was scheduled for 9:00 p.m. We took some time to visit Gangaour Ghat, wrapped up some last-minute shopping, and enjoyed a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola. Before heading to the station, we packed some food for the train journey.
Things to note: Udaipur is a city of lakes, and the views are the best. So you decide what you wish to do there instead of just ticking off the lists of people.
Notes for travellers:
- Shopping near Jagdish Temple: Explore the lanes near Jagdish Temple for excellent shopping finds.
- Sanjangarh over Karni Mata: Consider visiting Sanjangarh for the breathtaking view instead of Karni Mata, based on personal preference.
- Jagmandir Island Skip: If you are staying at Lake View Restaurant and have already experienced the view at Amet Haveli, you might skip Jagmandir Island, as it might not offer value for money.
- Local Food and Market Strolls: Opt for exploring local food and markets over cafe hopping for an authentic experience.
- Kumbalgarh Avoidable: Kumbalgarh can be skipped to allocate an extra day in Udaipur for a more leisurely experience.
- Art Classes and Nail Art: Consider taking an art class or getting nail art done by commendable artists in Udaipur.
- Laid-back Exploration: Enjoy a relaxed exploration by walking through the lanes, stopping only when something truly catches your eye.
- Being in the Moment: Prioritise experiencing attractions fully rather than just ticking them off a list; revisit places like Sahelion ki Bari to see them in different lights.
- Considerate Travel: If travelling with family, adjust the itinerary to accommodate everyone’s pace; avoid overly tiring activities like fort visits for elderly companions.
- Transport Options: Trains and autos are recommended for travel within the city, with scooties also available for rent internally.
- Special Mention: Mani Balaji Store: Check out Mani Balaji for unique fabric finds; they offer tailor-made clothing services with quick delivery, like stitching a top for just ₹1,000.
Enjoy your trip and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Udaipur!
