Hello folks, Deepanjan a.k.a. Joy this side. When we consider canceling travel plans, the first place that springs to the mind is “GOAAAA.” The phrase “Goa plans are made to be canceled at the last moment” is used frequently, especially among the younger generations, including college students, bachelors, and newly hired professionals. That’s why I felt compelled to go to Goa eventually, whether it was with friends or by myself. Yes, I had previously visited with my family while I was in school (approximately two decades ago), but my memories were hazy.
Started my journey on 26th Aug ’23 at 6 am with Madgaon Rajdhani. Paid around Rs. 3000/- per person for a comfortable seat with a window view. Reached Thivimon on 27th Aug ’23 in North Goa after a 25-hour journey. For those staying in South Goa, it is convenient to get down at Madgaon on Day 1.
Day 1 : Madgaon Rajdhani (NZM – MAO) North Goa’s Beaches and Beyond
I took a local bus from Thivim Rly. Stn. to Anjuna Beach, where my hostel was located. I found many affordable hostels priced between 300/- to 500/- per person (searching Google maps, booking.com, makemytrip.com, Agoda will be helpful). My hostel was clean and comfortable, with bunk beds and lockers in a 6-bed dormitory. After freshening up, I headed out for a full-day trip.
I visited Anjuna Beach, Vagator Beach, and Chapora Fort in North Goa where the weather was a mix of rainy and sunny. For traveling locally, you can choose from these options: full-day bike rental (Rs. 500 + fuel), point-to-point bike/scooter drop (Rs. 100-200), or local buses via Mapusa (Rs. 20-30). After a full-day tour, I headed back to my hostel. I relaxed at a café in Anjuna Beach, soaked in the sunset, listened to music, and savored dinner.
Day 2 :Forts, Beaches, and More
On day 2 I explored Aguada Fort, Calangute Beach, Sinquerim Fort, and Beach. You can take a bus from Anjuna to Aguada Fort for Rs. 30-Rs. 50 via Mapusa and Calangute crossing. Enjoy the trek and scenery while walking 3 km to the fort. There is an option to visit Aguada Fort from Taj Aguada: bike taxis available at Rs. 100-Rs. 200. Make a pit stop at Sinquerim fort and Calangute Beach. After a fulfilling day you can return to Anjuna Beach to bathe and admire the sunset with live music. Don’t forget to grab some souvenirs priced between Rs. 50-Rs. 100 each.
Day 3 : Exploring Panaji and Water Adventures
Panaji, with its pleasant climate and ancient Portuguese architecture, is a must-visit destination- Immaculate Church, marine drive, day cruise, Dona Paula, and Miramar beach. Despite the monsoon season closing most water sports, I still got to enjoy jet skiing. Exploring Panaji on foot is the best way to experience it.
- The cruise costs – Rs, 500/- per person for the 1-hour ride (food and beverages separate)
- Jetski costs Rs. 400/- per person for a 5-10 mins circular ride.
For those interested in trying out all the water sports, a complete package costs around Rs. 2500-3000 per person in other seasons.
Day 4: A Farewell to Goa by visiting Vasco
We visited Vasco, the nearest town and largest city in Goa, before boarding a flight from Dabolim Airport. There we explored St. Andrews Church and Vasco Jetty. That’s how I created unforgettable memories.
To get to the airport by bus, it only costs around Rs. 100/- from Anjuna to Vasco via Mapusa and Panaji. Alternatively, there are direct AC buses available from Panaji to the airport, priced at Rs. 48 per/- person.
An airport journey is incomplete without availing the lounge facility if one has a valid debit/credit card. The return flight was pleasant and on time, but expensive at almost Rs. 5000/- when booked a month in advance.
Travel Hacks for Goa Trip :
- Renting bikes will make your trip more convenient.
- Despite the fact that the alcohol is ground cheaply, every other utility is pricey.
- To catch the flea market in Goa, you must be there on a Wednesday.
- Don’t forget sunscreens and goggles.
Best Time to Visit Goa :
I believe that Goa can be visited all throughout the year. I prefer January the most because the weather is quite enjoyable.
Best Cafe in Goa
Pirates café in Anjuna was quite reasonable with drinks starting from Rs. 160/- and veg-non veg food options at Rs. 200-Rs. 500/-.
Rs. 600-800/- per person will be sufficient during off-seasons.
Enjoy the beaches, and discover the beauty of Goa’s rich culture and history. Goa Awaits you !!!
