Our adventure commenced with a train journey from Delhi Railway Station, departing at 9:30 PM and arriving in Jodhpur at 8 AM. The train ride, costing around 1000 INR per person, was comfortable and set the tone for the trip.

Upon arrival, we went directly to our accommodation at Shivam Palace and Resort, which charged 1200 INR per night. After checking in and dropping off our luggage, we immediately started exploring the city’s rich experiences.

1. Mehrangarh Fort: A Royal Start to Our Jodhpur Adventure

Our first stop was the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in India. Perched high on a hilltop, it offers panoramic views of Jodhpur, the Blue City. The fort, showcasing the grandeur of the Rathore rulers through its palaces, museums, and temples was awe-inspiring. We also indulged in hot kachoris and mawa sweets from local vendors outside the fort—an excellent way to satisfy our morning hunger. The entry fee for Indian adults was 100 INR.

2. Jaswant Thada: Serenity Amidst Royalty

A short distance from Mehrangarh Fort lies Jaswant Thada, a serene marble mausoleum dedicated to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Also, to get from Mehrangarh Fort to Jaswant Thada, take an autorickshaw for the approximately 1 km journey. The tranquil gardens and elegant cenotaphs provided a peaceful respite and were perfect for a relaxing stroll. Moreover, the entry fee was a mere 15 INR.

3. Clock Tower and Sardar Market: A Sensory Fiesta

Next, we ventured to the bustling Clock Tower area, which serves as the heart of Jodhpur’s vibrant market scene. Here, we shopped for local spices, handicrafts, and mojris. Also, the market’s chaat and mirchi bada were renowned, and we eagerly sampled these local delights. Moreover, from Jaswant Thada to Clock Tower, use an auto rickshaw or cab; it’s around 4 km. The lively atmosphere of the market was a sensory overload in the best way possible.

4. Toorji Ka Jhalra: A Cool Retreat

As the sun began to set, we visited Toorji Ka Jhalra, an 18th-century stepwell that had been beautifully restored. Also, the cool evening breeze and the stunning architecture made it an ideal spot for relaxation and photography. Moreover, the distance from Clock Tower to Toorji Ka Jhalra is less than 1 km, a short walk.

5. Umaid Bhawan Palace: A Glimpse into Royalty

Our next morning was dedicated to exploring Umaid Bhawan Palace, now a heritage hotel and museum. Also, the royal architecture, vintage car collection, and museum exhibits were impressive, and the entry fee was 30 INR. The palace offered a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Jodhpur’s royal family. Moreover, to reach Umaid Bhawan Palace from the hotel, take an autorickshaw for approximately 5 km.

6. Mandore Gardens

Following our visit to Umaid Bhawan Palace, we headed to Mandore Gardens, known for its historic cenotaphs and temples. The lush green lawns and the Hall of Heroes provided a serene environment, perfect for leisurely exploration. Also, the entry fee was 10 INR. Moreover, from Umaid Bhawan Palace to Mandore Gardens, take a taxi for the 10 km journey.

7. Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park: A Desert Oasis

In the afternoon, we explored Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park. Walking along nature trails and admiring the diverse fauna was a refreshing experience. Also, the views of Mehrangarh Fort from the park were simply breathtaking. Moreover, to get from Mandore Gardens to Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, take an autorickshaw; it’s about 7 km.

8.Kaylana Lake: A Serene End to Our Jodhpur Journey

We wrapped up our trip with a visit to Kaylana Lake, where we enjoyed a peaceful boating experience. Also, the street food, including pakoras and jalebi, added a special touch to our evening, making it memorable. Finally, to reach Kaylana Lake from Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, take an autorickshaw for the approximately 8 km journey.

Jodhpur Travel Tips: Your Guide to the Blue City

The best time to visit is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant.
Also, pack comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, hats, and light cotton clothes. Carry warm clothing in winter.
Moreover, use auto rickshaws, cycle rickshaws, and taxis for short distances. For longer distances, consider hiring a car.
Likewise, modest clothing is recommended, especially when visiting temples and historic sites.
