Hello, fellow travellers! I’m Simran Bhat, and I’m excited to share my recent adventure to the mesmerising hill station of Nainital. Nestled in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Nainital is a gem that travellers love with its serene lakes, lush hills, and charming town life.
Journey Begins from Delhi to Nainital: How to Reach?

We decided to take a bus from Delhi to Nainital, which cost us ₹800 per. Also, an important guide for all: unless you’re an experienced driver, I wouldn’t recommend driving to Nainital. Also, the roads are quite dangerous, making the journey risky for an inexperienced person.
Comfortable Stay by Bhimtal Lake:
Upon arrival, we found a cosy hotel right near Bhimtal Lake for just ₹700 per night. Also, the convenience of having a good restaurant right across the street was a bonus. Waking up to the view of the peaceful lake each morning was truly a delightful experience.
Exploring Naini Lake and Beyond:

The heart of Nainital, Naini Lake, is a picturesque freshwater lake surrounded by verdant hills. Boating on the lake is a must-do activity, but remember to negotiate for the best prices.
Overlooking Naini Lake is the serene Naina Devi Temple, which adds a spiritual charm to the area. Also, the peaceful ambience here is soothing to the soul. However, beware of the numerous langoors and monkeys around; keep some biscuits or snacks handy, as these mischievous creatures are always on the lookout for your belongings.
Immersing in Local Culture:

To truly appreciate Nainital’s beauty, take some time to explore the town’s lesser-known areas. This will give you a glimpse of the local culture and way of life. Also, the local street food and shops offer a delightful experience, so don’t miss out on trying them.
Essential Tips for a Smooth Trip to Nanital:

- Best time to visit Nainital: You can feel the chilly winds, especially during the winter months from November to February.
- Likewise, some remote areas may not have access to ATMs and often have poor network coverage, so both ATMs and UPI might not work.
What to pack for Nainital:

- Pack thermals, sweaters, and a good-quality jacket to keep warm.
- Additionally, a power bank is essential for keeping your phone charged, as you’ll be taking loads of pictures.
- Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated—carry a water bottle and refill it from natural springs in the hills.
- Moreover, packing some snacks is a great idea for on-the-go energy. Local snacks are pricey, like a plate of Maggi costing around ₹60, so carrying your own will save you money.
- Always keep some cash with you.
- Comfortable walking shoes are a must for exploring scenic landscapes and bustling markets. Trust me, you don’t want to be in heels on these terrains.
- Toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, and any other personal care items like medicine and sunscreen are all basic.

Nainital is a haven for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat. From the serene Naini Lake to the vibrant local culture, every aspect of this hill station has something unique to offer.
