Hey everyone, I’m Saksham, a BTech student from Vadodara. My friends and I recently went to Nainital, and it was unforgettable. Also, the memories of those beautiful valleys will stay with me forever. Had an amazing trip to Nainital. Moreover, the scenery, friendly locals, and trekking were incredible. Sipping chai in the valleys was pure magic.
Train Journey to Nainital and Accommodation Options:

Our adventure to Nainital began with a train ride from Vadodara to Delhi (₹2,500 each), departing at 8 p.m. and arriving by 8:30 a.m. the next day (10–12 hours). In Delhi, we also hopped on another train to Kathgodam (₹500 each), reaching around 11 p.m. after a 6-7 hour journey.
Also, a final bus ride (2 hours) took us to Nainital late at night. Thankfully, our pre-booked hotel (₹2,500/night) awaited, offering a welcome rest after the long journey.
Exploring Nainital: A Day of Scenic Beauty and Local Charm

- Naini Lake:
Our first stop was the beautiful Naini Lake, the heart of Nainital. We enjoyed boating on its calm waters, surrounded by green hills. The view was mesmerising, and the experience was unforgettable. Also, this place was 2 km from the hotel, a 10-minute rickshaw ride.
- Snow View Point:
Next, we took a cable car to Snow View Point, where we saw stunning views of the snow-capped Himalayas. Also, the panoramic scenery was breathtaking, and we enjoyed taking it all in. Moreover, it was 3 km from Naini Lake, a 15-minute cable car ride.
- Mall Road:
In the evening, we walked along Mall Road, which is lined with shops and eateries. Also, it was 1 km from Snow View Point, a 10-minute walk. We also visited the Tibetan Market, bought some local handicrafts and souvenirs, and enjoyed the lively atmosphere and vibrant culture.
Discovering Nainital’s Peaks and Valleys

- Tiffin Top:
We hiked to Tiffin Top, a popular picnic spot with a 360-degree view of Nainital and its hills. Also, the trek was moderately challenging, but the view was worth it.
- Nainital Zoo:
Just a 10-minute rickshaw ride (2 km) from Tiffin Top, we visited the Nainital Zoo. It is home to various Himalayan animals, like the snow leopard and the Himalayan black bear. Also, the zoo was well-maintained, and we enjoyed some local street food, including momos and aloo tikki, near the zoo.
- Eco Cave Garden:
A 15-minute auto ride (3 km) from the zoo brought us to the Eco Cave Garden. We explored the interconnected caves and hanging gardens, learning about the natural habitat of various animals.Also, it was a fun and educational experience.
Unveiling Nainital’s Hidden Gems

- Khurpatal Lake:
We ventured 12 km (30-minute cab ride) from our hotel to discover the serene Khurpatal Lake. Also, this lesser-known gem offered a peaceful escape with clear waters, perfect for relaxation away from the crowds.
- Sariyatal Lake:
Our journey continued 8 km further (20-minute cab ride) to Lake, another peaceful haven. We also enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and spent some tranquil moments there.

- Evening on Mall Road
In the evening, we returned to Mall Road for some last-minute shopping and to try more local food. We also savoured bun tikki, thukpa, and hot gulab jamun, which tantalised our taste buds, leaving us with a happy and satisfied feeling.

Travel Tips for Nainital: Enjoy Your Trip to the Fullest
- Best Time to Visit: March to June and September to November offer pleasant weather.
- Essential Packing: Bring comfortable walking shoes, warm clothes (evenings can be chilly), sunscreen, a hat, water bottles, and a good camera.
- Local Transport: Use rickshaws and autos for short distances and cabs for longer trips. Don’t miss the cable car ride to Snow View Point.
- What to Do: Enjoy boating, trekking, and exploring local markets.
- What Not to Do: Avoid littering, and always respect the local culture and environment.
All in all, the trip cost us around ₹33,500 for the five of us. Nainital was an amazing trip. We also hiked stunning trails, explored hidden lakes, and devoured delicious local food. If you’re looking for a perfect getaway, Nainital is a must-visit.
