Greetings to all fellow nomads! Saksham here, and I’m excited to share the enchanted story of our family’s recent two-day trip to the holy city of Banaras. Our voyage unfolded like a treasured chapter in a travelogue, full of spiritual enlightenment and cross-cultural inquiry.
Beginning Point: Banaras to New Delhi
We started our journey with a night train from New Delhi, which provided us with three luxurious AC tickets for 1100 Indian rupees per night. When we finally arrived in Banaras at 10 AM, our senses led us to a busy street stall where the sign advertised a delicious breakfast amidst a vibrant crowd. Hotel Pearl Courtyard is the place to stay. After a short 5 km taxi ride that cost 900 INR per night, we arrived at the comfortable Hotel Pearl Courtyard. Enthusiastically, we headed out to discover the spiritual treasures that Banaras held after reviving ourselves.
First day: Embracing the spiritual tapestry.
Vindhyachal: A Paradise for Foodies
We set off on a journey of eighty kilometres to reach Vindhyachal. We had a great lunch at “Litti Wala,” where the flavors of litti chokha danced on our palates, greeted by the aromas of local cuisine.
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple Is A Haven for the Soul
We traveled eight kilometres in rickshaws to reach the holy Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Entering this hallowed location, we felt the spiritual atmosphere that surrounded us, amidst the ardor of devotees.
At Sankat Mochan Temple, Pursuing Grace
After a 4-kilometer autorickshaw journey, we arrived at the peaceful Sankat Mochan Temple, where we beseeched Lord Hanuman’s blessings and found comfort in the presence of the almighty.
Kaal Bhairav Temple: Historic Mythology
We travelled just two km to reach the historic Kaal Bhairav Temple. Shrouded in mystery, the temple piqued our interest as we honoured the powerful god Kaal Bhairav.
Manikarnika Ghat: Life’s Reflections
We headed to the famous Manikarnika Ghat as the sun was setting. We arrived at this hallowed location after a little stroll from Kaal Bhairav Temple, where the enduring flames served as a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of life and death.
Assi Ghat: Isolated Moments
After walking down the ghats, we came to Assi Ghat, which is around 3.7 kilometres away from Manikarnika Ghat. The calm atmosphere offered a peaceful backdrop for reflection and meditation as the day softly gave way to night.
Ghat Dashashwamedh: An Outstanding Completion
After a pleasant 3-kilometer trek from Assi Ghat, our explorations came to an end at Dashashwamedh Ghat. We were treated to the magnificent sight of the Ganga Aarti, which was timed to perfection and lifted our spirits.
