Greetings, fellow adventurers! Neeraj here !!!
I had a fantastic time on a spontaneous day trip to the National Zoological Park in New Delhi. I travelled from Noida; Khan Market is the nearest metro station to the National Zoological Park, and you can reach the zoo by taking DTC buses. It was an exciting adventure to explore the wonders of nature! Get ready for a wild ride!
1.Arrival at the National Zoological Park: A Wild Ride Begins!
On the inside, we saw a variety of animals. Powerful lions roared, making a strong impression. Playful monkeys brought humour, and graceful gazelles seemed to dance. The bird area was full of colourful and melodious species from different parts of the world.
We found ourselves fascinated by the avian wonders, from the regal peacocks showing their iridescent plumage to the vibrant parrots that chattered away in a language only they understood. The flamingos, with their elegant pink plumage, created a stunning visual contrast against the lush greenery.
2.Delving into the Eerie yet Fascinating Reptile House:
The park was carefully designed, with each area reaching the homes of its animal residents. The reptile house, with its slithering inhabitants, provided an eerie yet fascinating experience. The aquarium, on the other hand, offered an interesting underwater world, showcasing the beauty and diversity of marine life.
3.Serene Moments among Lush Foliage and Water Bodies:
While walking in the park, we admired the careful landscaping. The greenery and neat paths enhanced the overall appeal. Ponds with lilies offered peaceful spots to reflect, creating a perfect blend of nature and architecture
4.Engaging with Enthusiastic Zookeepers, Aviary, and Zoo Conservation Centre:
During our visit, we discovered an educational spot where enthusiastic zookeepers shared insightful information about the animals. Their passion and knowledge deepened our understanding and appreciation for the zoo’s residents
The aviary is a hidden part to see, a huge space where we walked through tunnels surrounded by birds of various shapes and sizes. It felt like entering a magical world, with colourful feathers brushing against us, making it an enchanting experience that left us amazed.
We couldn’t finish our day without checking out the zoo’s conservation centre. There, we saw dedicated efforts to protect and preserve endangered species. It was heartening to witness the commitment to wildlife conservation and education.
After a tiring exploration of the zoo, we found the convenience of e-rickshaws. For a small fee of Rs. 70 for individuals aged 12 to 60, these electric rides offered a nice break.
Entry Fees and Amenities: What to Expect
During winter, the zoo operates in two slots: from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Slot 1) and from 12:30 p.m. to 04:30 p.m. (Slot 2). The zoo remains closed every Friday. The entry fees were reasonable, with free admission for kids under 5, Rs. 40 for those between 5 and 12 years, and Rs. 80 for individuals aged 12 to 60. The park had water coolers, washrooms everywhere, and benches for those much-needed breaks.
Best Time to Visit
The zoo is open throughout the year, but it’s recommended to visit during the summer and winter seasons as more birds migrate. To see the migrating Little Brown Dove, Ring Dove, and Little Cormorant birds, it’s best to visit in the summer. For sightings of birds like the Common Swallow, different wagtail birds, and Tailor Bird, it’s recommended to visit the zoo during the winter season.
Places to visit nearby:
- Purana Qila
- Humayun’s Tomb
- Rajpath
Necessary things to carry:
- If it rains according to the weather forecast, having a small umbrella can help you stay dry.
- If the zoo has large exhibits, using binoculars can make your animal-watching experience better, especially for those farther away.
Tips for Visiting a National Zoological Park
- We spent about 2k for the day, covering entry fees, snacks, and some irresistible souvenirs.
- Take a meal outside before entering the zoo since the choices inside are limited.
- Also, you can’t bring food inside, but considering the size of the zoo, it’s a good idea to bring some snacks to keep your energy up.
- The parking for our car was inside the zoo premises, and it cost Rs. 50.
Our unplanned visit to the National Zoological Park was a mix of excitement, learning, and wonder. From lions to vibrant birds and conservation efforts, it left a lasting impression. If you want a day of discovery and connection with nature, this zoo is a must-visit.
