Hello, travel lovers! Darjeeling has always been my favourite place since I was a kid. Starting on a journey to Darjeeling, a picturesque town located in the Himalayas, was truly an unforgettable experience.

How to reach Darjeeling:
Upon our arrival at Bagdogra Airport, we were greeted by our tour operator, who promptly took us to Sittong, a quaint little town known for its natural beauty.
Best hotels you can find ever on the hilltops of Darjeeling :
Our homestay, a charming three-cottage establishment run by a warm family, was the perfect place to unwind after a long day of travel. We indulged in a delicious lunch, followed by some rest and an evening filled with music and Maggie.
Daywise Itinerary: Places to Visit in Darjeeling
- Day 1: Starting our tour to the quaint hill station:
We began our day with a visit to the Ahaldara viewpoint, where the fog added a mystical touch to the landscape. Our next stops were the Sittong Monastery, Jogi Ghar Bridge, and the Orange Garden. The view from the Jogi Ghar Bridge was truly breathtaking. Later, we proceeded to Darjeeling, where we checked into our hotel and visited the famous Mall Road. We relished some mouthwatering cheesecake and pastries at the renowned Glenary’s bakery before exploring the vibrant street market.

- Day 2: A day of fun at Tea Gardens and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
In the morning, we decided to explore the tea gardens and enjoy their stunning views. We bought different types of tea as souvenirs: green, milk, and masala tea. Later, we visited the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, which showcases Himalayan peaks, mountaineering gear, and the stories of Everest conquerors. The institute also has a zoo with animals like red pandas, Bengal tigers, and Himalayan wolves.
We hopped on the famous Darjeeling Toy Train for a scenic ride from Darjeeling Station to Ghum and back. A short stop at Batasia Loop offered breathtaking views and photo opportunities. At Ghum Station, we explored the Ghum Museum before wandering through local markets, villages, and roadside sights. Riding the Toy Train is a must-do for travellers—it’s like stepping into the past with its vintage charm.

- Day 3: The last day to explore the charm of Darjeeling
On our last day in Darjeeling, we visited the peaceful Japanese Pagoda Temple, displaying the four avatars of Buddha. It was a serene spot, ideal for finding peace. Afterwards, we checked out of our hotel and went to Mirik, known for its beautiful Mirik Lake.
On the way, we paused at the India-Nepal border, marvelling at the breathtaking valley dividing the two countries. We explored tea plantations, soaking in the mesmerising scenery, before heading to Mirik. Once there, we strolled through the flower garden and even went horseback riding near the lake.
- Day 4: Syagodbye to the land of beauty, Darjeeling
On our last day, we headed back to Bagdogra Airport, around 2–3 hours from Mirik. The trip ended with cherished memories and a deeper love for Darjeeling and its surroundings.

A hidden gem in Darjeeling you can’t miss:
The Observatory Hill and Mahakal Temple are right behind the mall. The temple sits atop Observatory Hill. You can spot a set of stairs leading from Mall Road up to the hill and temple. Legend has it that where the Mahakal Temple now stands, there used to be a Buddhist monastery called Darjeeling Monastery.
