Hello peeps ,
I am Devarshi, and I am here to share my wonderful trek experience at Manali. It’s interesting to know that the trek I hopped on was organized by a trekking company called CAMP WANDERERS, and they have one of the best organizations when it comes to trekking.
We boarded a train from Ahmedabad to Delhi for an overnight journey. After reaching Delhi, the company organized a hotel near the railway station for us to stay in. We had to catch a bus to Manali at 6 pm that day. The next day, we reached our hotel in Manali, freshened up, and received a briefing about the upcoming days. In the evening, we went for a warm-up session which included a short hike from our accommodation.
Before I begin to share my day’s experience let me share some important info that this particular trek was everything that one might need to get out of the daily routine and challenge themselves. The Hampta Pass trek is moderate, level 3 in difficulty, but this trek does require prior experience of trekking.

Chika – Tents and Tales:
Our adventure began when we reached our first destination, Chika, after a trek of approximately 4-5 hours on the same day. Trust me, the view was mesmerizing, your eyes would just not get enough of it. At the end of the day, we had a wholesome meal with some fun bonfire and songs together. Also, we learned to build our tents.
Baluegera – River Crossings and Valley Views:
Reached Baluegera, the base camp for the Hampta Pass summit. The trek was 7 hours, involving a freezing river crossing on slippery stones. But with a lot of help from our guides and instructor, we made it. The further 2-hour trek was like the Kashmir valleys and there we enjoyed evening tea, soaked in breathtaking mountain views for an hour.
Then after that, we went back to base camp, had an early dinner, and geared up for a 4 AM start for the summit which could be a challenging trek covered in snow and chances of rain, but luckily there was no rain.
Summit Day – A Triumph in the Clouds:
As we started our trek we did not expect so much fog that we could not see who was in front of us. But the moment we mounted the breathing became difficult, as the air started getting thin. But slowly and gradually we managed to reach the summit. The trek to the summit point was a bit difficult to reach because of the narrow lane and downhill. Also, you could not see the bottom from there, and we were scared.
The thrill of being 14,000ft above the world, the rush, and the pride of reaching the mountain peak and seeing the sky filled create a feeling that beats everything, offering remarkable satisfaction and a sense of achievement.
Campsite at Chatru – Nature’s Canvas
After that, we had to make our way to Chatru, which was our next campsite. It was one of the most beautiful campsites, with a river running through it, valleys, and a view of the majestic Pir Panjal Range, as well as the mountains of Lahaul and Spiti.
A Bidding farewell to an amazing trip by Chandratal Lake
The trek’s final day consisted of returning to the village, which included a challenging downhill trek. Also, crossing the knee-deep, freezing river early in the morning left our legs numb. We had to rub Vicks on our feet and jump to restore blood circulation. The next day, we visited Chandratal Lake with its crystal-clear water and stunning shades of blue before heading back to Manali.
And that was the end of a trek with the most amazing and breathtaking views that will be cherished in my memories forever.
Necessary things to pack:
- While going for a trek it’s important to carry sunscreen with high SPF. Make sure you apply it at intervals of two hours.
- Take Vicks and muscle reliever spray, also make sure you have waterproof and gripped gloves.
- Girls must carry menstrual cups. It saves the littering of the environment.
- Don’t wash your face with cold water, take enough wet wipes.
- Make sure you have enough warm clothing and always stay hydrated.
- Carry slides and not slippers, so that there is no need to remove the socks and keep your feet warm.
Important Tips for Trekking :
- Do exercise or at least walk before the trek, which would make the trek easier.
- Try to avoid speaking too much while trekking as it would consume a lot of your energy.
- Take two power banks as a backup.
- Carry a Bluetooth speaker and download songs that can help you while trekking and have fun with your friends.
Best Time to visit the Hampta Pass trek
Although you may hike to Hampta Pass throughout the year, mid-June through September is the most pleasant time to travel. The weather is often nice during this time of year, with daytime highs of 13 to 18 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows of 0 degrees Celsius.
Everyone should, in my opinion, go on the trip at least once in their lives. It’s an experience that could go well or poorly, but in the end, discover not just new heights, but the strength within.
