Hello spiritual lovers, Mainaaz Warsi here !!! I had a life-changing solo trekking adventure in December. Being a working woman with limited leaves decided to make the most of it and plan a solo trip. After thorough research on Instagram, I chose the Kedarkantha trek in the beautiful Uttarakhand region. It was a moderately challenging trek with stunning views.
The journey lasts for five days and four nights, reaching a maximum altitude of 12,500 feet. Also, covering around 25 kilometres of trekking.
Route to Kedarnath :
I started my journey by taking a bus to Dehradun, which was my starting point. After a tiring and long journey, I finally arrived at Sankri Village at 9 p.m.
5 Days Itinerary to Kedarnath
- Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri Village
After reaching Sankri Village. The trekking group, Himalayan Griffon had arranged our accommodations at the best. Also, there was a briefing about the next day’s plans. Moreover, I enjoyed a delicious dinner, much-needed after a long day, before calling it a night.
- Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab
Our second day started early with breakfast at 6:30 a.m., and we began our trek at 7 a.m. Also, we were asked to carry our luggage and trekked through the stunning Himalayan landscape, surrounded by Devdar trees. Along the way, we met fellow trekkers of different ages, making the journey even more enriching. After around four to five hours, we reached Juda Ka Talab. There, we set up tents, had a satisfying lunch. Subsequently, we took the opportunity to explore the enchanting forest and admire the incredible views. Despite the chilly -2° temperature, we kept warm by gathering around a cosy bonfire, engaging in joyful dancing, and games, and forging new friendships.
- Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp
On the third day, we had an early breakfast at 7 a.m. and started our trek towards the Kedarkantha base camp. The path became more demanding, with steep inclines and breathtaking views. By around 12 to 1 p.m., we reached the base camp, where we had lunch and made preparations for the summit trek the following day. In the afternoon, we spent time exploring the surroundings, capturing precious memories, and braving the -8° temperature to keep ourselves warm.
- Day 4: Kedarkantha Summit Peak and Back to Sankri Village
We began our final trek at 2 a.m., fully prepared for the summit with five layers of clothing, a head torch, and spikes for walking on snow. As we trekked through the moonlit snow, covered by over a thousand fellow trekkers, it was an experience like no other. In around four to five hours, we reached the summit, where we viewed a breathtaking sunrise over the 360-degree Himalayan view. Also, we all spent an hour at the summit before beginning our descent, which proved to be more challenging than the climb.
After having lunch at the base camp, we packed our bags and resumed our trek to Sankri Village. When we arrived, we were pleased to discover that electricity and network services were available again after being cut off for three days.
At 9 p.m, we boarded the same traveller bus, tired but proud of our achievement and with a newfound appreciation for the Himalayas.
