Hi, I’m Riya Kc, and I recently embarked on an exhilarating three-day journey to the vibrant state of Goa. With excitement and anticipation coursing through my veins, I started my adventure with a train ride from Delhi to this coastal paradise. Upon arrival, I checked into Thivanium Airport in North Goa, though our actual accommodation was booked elsewhere. An auto-rickshaw ride costing 650 INR took us to our cozy stay at Zostel Anjuna.
Day 1: Dolphins, Beaches, and Sunsets
Upon settling into our Superior Deluxe room with a balcony at Zostel Anjuna, which cost 9,000 INR for two nights, we were ready to start our adventure. Our first destination was Coco Beach, where we eagerly boarded a motorboat for 650 INR. The boat ride took us into the middle of the sea, and we were thrilled to witness dolphins frolicking in their natural habitat. The sight of these playful creatures was truly magical and set a perfect tone for our trip.
After the exhilarating dolphin sighting, we headed to Nerul Eat Street for lunch. The seafood was delectable, and we relished every bite. With our appetites satisfied, we made our way to Arambol Beach to catch the sunset. The sky painted itself in hues of orange and pink as we enjoyed snacks at a beachside shack, soaking in the serene ambiance. As night fell, we returned to our hostel for dinner, reflecting on the wonderful experiences of the day.
Day 2: Churches, Lanes, and Flea Markets
Our second day began with a visit to the Immaculate Conception Church in Panaji, the capital city of Goa. Unfortunately, the church was closed for restoration work, but its majestic exterior still made for a great photo opportunity. A quick tip for fellow travelers: remember to adhere to the dress code, as shorts and sleeveless tops are not permitted inside religious establishments.
Next, we explored the colorful lanes of Antanas. The vibrant streets were perfect for leisurely strolls, and we found a delightful cafe for lunch. The area is also known for its souvenir shops, so we took the opportunity to do some shopping.
In the evening, we made our way to Anjuna Beach and the famous Anjuna Flea Market. The market, open every Wednesday, is a bustling hub of activity, offering a wide variety of souvenirs and trinkets. Even though it wasn’t Wednesday, local shops were still open, and we enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Our day ended with a delightful dinner at Romeo Lane, a beachside shack at Vagator Beach, where we savoured delicious food under the starry sky.
Day 3: South Goa Exploration
On our final day, we rented a car for 5,800 INR (excluding parking charges) to explore the scenic beauty of South Goa. After a two-hour drive, we arrived at Palolem Beach. The beach was less crowded compared to its northern counterparts, and the cleaner shores made for a perfect morning.
Our journey continued to Agonda Beach, a serene and tranquil location that felt like a private haven. The calm and peaceful surroundings allowed us to relax and unwind.
As the day progressed, we headed to Kolavarami Beach, located within the Kolavarami Fort. This stunning location, surrounded by cliffs and lush greenery, offered calm waters perfect for spending the day. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to go kayaking, which cost 400 INR per couple.
For lunch, we dined at Cape Goa, renowned as the best sundowner restaurant in Goa. The restaurant offered a variety of Indian and continental dishes, and the live music from 4 pm onwards added to the delightful ambiance. As the sun set on our final day, we reflected on the incredible experiences we had in Goa.
Tips for a Memorable Trip
- If you’re traveling by air, opt for a morning flight to make the most of your time in Goa.
- Cabs in Goa can be expensive, and negotiation can be tough. Consider using public transport or renting a scooter for better mobility.
- With so many attractions to explore, plan your itinerary according to your interests to make the most of your trip.
- Don’t forget to pack essentials such as sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and swimsuits for a comfortable stay.
- Bargaining is common at local markets, so be prepared to negotiate prices for souvenirs and other purchases.
