Hello my travel lovers, Nikita this side !!!
Summer in Himachal Pradesh is nothing short of magical. The lush greenery, majestic mountains, and serene landscapes make it a paradise for travellers.
My best female friend and I, both spontaneous adventurers, decided to escape the city heat and explore the beautiful regions of Dharamshala and Dalhousie in June. Also, this trip was planned on a whim, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of our lives.
Mumbai to Chandigarh and Kangra: How to Reach?

Our adventure started with a long yet exciting train journey from Mumbai to Chandigarh, which took an entire day. From Chandigarh, we had pre-arranged a car and driver, thanks to a friend in Mumbai who made the arrangements. This was a crucial step for us, ensuring safety and convenience throughout our trip. The train ticket was around ₹3,500 per person.
Kangra Fort’s Majesty:

After an overnight stay in Kangra, we began our sightseeing tour. The first stop was the historic Kangra Fort, a magnificent structure that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. The next destination on our list was Dharamshala.
Exploring Dharamshala: Nature, Adventure, and Serenity

On our way to Dharamshala, we visited the Tea Estate and Bir Billing, renowned for their paragliding experiences. We booked a paragliding session through a reputable office, ensuring that our belongings were safe and that we were in the hands of well-trained staff. The thrill of soaring above the beautiful landscapes was unmatched.
My Experience at Himgiri Resort & Spa: Best Stay in Dharamshala
In Dharamshala, we checked into the Himgiri Resort and Spa in Naddi. This beautiful hotel offered stunning views of the snow-clad mountains, making it a perfect place to unwind.
A Hike, a Temple, and a Vibrant Local Market in Dharamshala

The next day, we hiked to Shiva Cafe, known for its pleasant vibes, delicious pizza, and aromatic coffee.
Later, we explored the lanes of McLeod Ganj. The narrow streets line with colourful prayer flags fluttering in the wind and the aroma of Tibetan cuisine. The vibrant community mixes locals, monks, and tourists, creating a lively yet serene atmosphere. Small shops and cafes scatter throughout, offering everything from handcrafted souvenirs to steaming cups of chai.
We also visited the Dalai Lama Temple, known as the Tsuglagkhang Complex, which was a profound and peaceful experience. The temple complex, which serves as the residence of the Dalai Lama, is a spiritual hub for Tibetan Buddhists.
The Journey to Dalhousie:

The drive from Dharamshala to Dalhousie was long and hot, making it somewhat challenging. Also, we quickly stopped at the Dharamshala Stadium, but it was under construction.
My Experience at the Valley Hotel: Best Stay in Dalhousie

Upon reaching Dalhousie, we checked into the Bear Valley Hotel, which offered a beautiful view of the valley.
We explored the nearby streets, finding delightful street food, gaming zones, and shopping opportunities. While the Cafe Dalhousie looked perfect for photos, we wouldn’t recommend it for dining.
Must know: Budget travellers can find hostels and guesthouses for ₹500 to ₹2000 per night. Also, mid-range hotels cost ₹2000 to ₹5000 per night, offering comfort and affordability. Moreover, the luxury resorts start at ₹5,000 per night, offering premium amenities and service.
Discovering Khajjiar and Dainkund Peak

The next day, we headed to Khajjiar, often referred to as “Mini Switzerland.” The drive was scenic, filled with blooming daisies, although the summer weather didn’t allow us to see it in its full glory. Nonetheless, it was a pleasant place for a stroll and some pictures.
Our best experience came from the mini-trek to Dainkund Peak. Also, the perfect breezy climate, roadside Maggi and chai stalls, and abundance of daisies made it a delightful outing.
Shopping Tip: The Bhagsu Naag Temple area has great shops. Shop here for unique items.
Saying goodbye to the two-town Himalayan Escape
Our trip concluded with a return to Chandigarh, where we spent the evening at the Elante Mall, enjoying a nice dinner. Also, the next morning, we boarded the train back to Mumbai, bringing an end to our incredible adventure.
Travel tips and costs
- The best time to visit Dharamshala and Dalhousie is during the winter or before peak summer to avoid the heat.
- Similarly, avoid Dalhousie in peak season. The narrow lanes can get very crowded.
- Also, make all your bookings in advance. Train journeys are affordable but can be time-consuming and tiring.
- Moreover, plan your internal transfers efficiently, as they can be quite extensive.
- Likewise, stay longer in Bir and Dharamshala. These places have a lot to offer, so it’s worth spending more time here.
The trip cost ₹30,000 per person, covering a hotel stay and a car with a driver. While the journey was challenging at times, it was worth every moment spent amidst the beauty and culture of Himachal Pradesh.
So, our spontaneous adventure turned out to be a perfect blend of thrill, relaxation, and exploration, and I highly recommend a similar itinerary to anyone looking to experience the magic of this region.
