Hello travel lovers, my name is Saksham. I recently had the incredible opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Varanasi with a group of six friends. Also, our journey was filled with spiritual discovery and cultural immersion, which turned out to be an unforgettable experience. Let me take you through the highlights of our trip, packed with ancient traditions, local flavours, and memorable moments.
Varanasi Adventure Starts: Travel and Accommodation

Our journey began at Gaya Junction. Our train was at 1 AM, and the ticket price was 500 INR per person for 6 people (3rd AC coach). We boarded the train and headed towards Varanasi. Also, it took us 4 hours to reach Varanasi.
By 5:30 AM, we arrived and booked a hotel right in front of the Cantt station, named Hotel Inn, priced at 1200 INR per night. Moreover, we booked 2 rooms since the hotel policy allowed a maximum of 3 people per room, and we were 6 friends.
Day 1: Arrival and Initial Explorations in Varanasi

Our first stop was the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple’s spiritual aura was palpable, and we were deeply moved by the serenity of the surroundings. We also indulged in some delicious street food outside the temple, including kachori sabzi and jalebi, which were an absolute treat.
Manikarnika Ghat was our next destination. Known as a sacred cremation site, this grave offered a unique and deeply spiritual experience. The atmosphere here was both profound and humbling.
In the evening, we headed to Dashashwamedh Ghat to witness the famous Ganga Aarti. This ritual, performed by the river, was a divine spectacle. We enjoyed a boat ride during the aarti, costing 100 INR per person for the live Ganga Aarti view. Although the price for a regular boat ride is usually between 50 and 100 INR, the experience of witnessing the Aarti from the river was truly worth it.

Day 2: Ghats, Historical, and Cultural Exploration in Varanasi

Assi Ghat was our morning destination the following day. We attended the Subah-e-Banaras programme, which was a serene and enlightening experience. Enjoying chai and Maggi at the ghat added a local touch to our morning.
Also, we then travelled to Sarnath, a site of immense historical importance where Buddha gave his first sermon. We explored the Dhamek Stupa, Sarnath Museum, and Ashoka Pillar, soaking in the rich history and spiritual significance of the place.
Our visit to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was equally fascinating. One of Asia’s largest residential universities, BHU’s vast campus, and the Bharat Kala Bhavan museum were highlights. We also enjoyed some chaat and lassi from nearby vendors.

Day 3: Exploring Varanasi’s Markets

On the third day, we went to Dalmandi, did a lot of shopping, and enjoyed street food like chole bhature and kachori.
Next, we headed to Gadowlia for more shopping. Moreover, exploring the local market was fun, and we had Golgappe and tamatar chaat. This trip was memorable and adventurous.
