Join me on my amazing trip to Agra with my friends through this city of love that beats time, engaging you in the rich heritage and captivating flavours that are synonymous with Agra.
Route from Hastinapur to Agra
We started our adventure in Meerut, catching a train to Agra. The journey took about 4 hours and 28 minutes. We were excited about exploring Agra’s history and tasting its famous cuisine, which kept us thrilled all the way.
Accommodation in Agra
We stayed at the affordable Hotel Marwari for our trip, costing only Rs. 500 per day. It was a great choice for adventurous travellers like us, who prefer immersing us in local culture over fancy accommodations.
Agra Unveiled Attractions:
- Taj Mahal: We started our journey at the stunning Taj Mahal, where history echoed in the marble. The air is filled with an aura of love and devotion as I learn the poignant story behind its creation, making me appreciate its beauty even more.
- Agra Fort: Entering Agra Fort felt like stepping into a living museum. As I walk through its towering gates and intricately designed corridors, I am transported back in time. The fort’s strategic location on the banks of the Yamuna River and its impressive architecture leave me in awe as I imagine the grandeur of the era it represents.
- Sikandar Fort: We decided to explore off the usual route and stumbled upon Sikandar Fort. Sikandra is where the tomb of the famous Mughal Emperor is located. The Sikandra Fort is a stunning tomb adorned with intricate designs. It’s crafted from a unique red sandstone, giving it a lavish appearance. The fort symbolises the Emperor’s expansive and cultured mindset. It’s also known as the Mausoleum of Akbar.
- Moti Masjid: We explore the Moti Masjid, found inside the Agra Fort, showcasing the incredible architectural skill of the Mughal period. Built by Shah Jahan, it’s commonly known as the Pearl Mosque because of its glowing beauty, which resembles a pearl.
- Akbar’s Tomb: It holds the remains of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. He built the tomb and garden during his lifetime, but his son Jahangir added the marble top later. The tomb is pyramidal in shape and has five stories.
- Anguri Bagh: It is the inner garden in the Shahjahan section of Agra Fort. It’s shaped like a quadrilateral. Surrounding this garden are many important palaces of the fort, like the Diwan-e-Khaas, the Nagina Masjid, the Khaas Mahal, and the Musamman Burj.
- Fatehpur Sikri: At Fatehpur Sikri, during sunset and sunrise, the turrets and domes cast shadows against the copper-red sky, creating a breathtaking scene perfect for a painter’s canvas or a visitor’s eyes.
Food to try in Agra:
- The most captivating was the street food nearby; don’t miss trying the crispy and spicy “Petha.”
- Try delicious “Bedai with Sabzi” from nearby street stalls that fill the air, tempting our taste buds.
- Near Sikandar Fort are stalls offering delicious “Dalmoth” snacks.
- In the peaceful setting of Moti Masjid, we found happiness in enjoying “Aloo Tikki Chaat,” a delightful street food treat.
- Inside Agra Fort, Anguri Bagh led us to a Paneer Tikka vendor, delighting our taste buds.
- Our journey ended at Fatehpur Sikri, where we couldn’t resist trying the local speciality, “Bedai with Jalebi.”
