Hello fellow travellers, Meet Nitish and my wife, a couple with a passion for exploring the scenic beauty of India. In December, they embarked on an unforgettable 4-day, 5-night journey to the mesmerising Kashmir Valley. The couple aimed to explore the rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and serene snow-covered mountains.

How to Reach Kashmir from Hyderabad:
Our journey began with a flight from Hyderabad to Delhi, which cost around ₹4,500 per person. Also, from Delhi, they took a train to Jammu (3 AC at ₹750 per person). For the Jammu-Srinagar stretch, they hired a private cab (Dzire) for ₹13,000. Likewise, the couple preferred road travel to soak in the panoramic views.
Cosy Stays Amidst Kashmir:
In Srinagar, you can stay at Hotel K28 Inn for ₹4,000 per night, known for its excellent service and delectable food. Also, in Gulmarg, Grand Hill View is available for ₹4,100 per night, famous for its hearty breakfast and dinner. Moreover, Pahalgam-Diamond Star offers stunning views of the snow-clad mountains for ₹3,500 per night.
Detailed itinerary for a romantic trip to Kashmir:
Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar and Local Exploration
We arrived in Srinagar by cab, visiting the famous Bat Factory and Saffron Garden on the way. In the evening, we indulged in local cuisine and explored Srinagar’s vibrant streets.
Tip: Don’t miss out on the local cuisine for a full-fledged Kashmiri experience.
Day 2: Exploring Srinagar’s Beauty
The day began peacefully with a visit to Shri Shankaracharya Temple, offering stunning views of the valley. Also, they then strolled through the lush greenery and fountains of Shalimar Garden and Mughal Gardens. Next, they explored Srinagar’s vibrant markets, including local shops and the iconic Lal Chowk. The day concluded with a serene shikara ride on Dal Lake, followed by an overnight stay on a houseboat.
Must-Try: Khwa tea by Dal Lake, prepared by locals, added an authentic touch to the day. Additionally, the entry fee for the Mughal Gardens was ₹20 per person.

Day 3: Adventure in Gulmarg
We drove to Gulmarg, visiting the Pashmina Shawl factories en route. Also, the Gondola ride provided panoramic views of snow-covered mountains and the India-Pakistan border. A night stay at Diamond Star completed our adventure-filled day.
Must Know: In Gulmarg, the Gondola ride costs ₹810 for Phase 1 and ₹1,010 for Phase 2.

Day 4: Pahalgam and Horse Ride to Mini Switzerland
After an unforgettable experience in Gulmarg, we set off for our next destination—Pahalgam, stopping to explore apple orchards and enjoy fresh apple juice. Upon arrival, we visited Mini Switzerland, took an adventurous horse ride, and admired the stunning scenery. Later, we explored local markets and savoured Kashmiri cuisine at Dana Pani before heading to the hotel for a restful night.
Must Know: In Pahalgam, the horse ride to Mini Switzerland was approximately ₹6,000.

Day 5: Departure to Jammu
On our final day, we travelled back to Jammu, visiting iconic temples and local markets before catching our train to Delhi. The journey was the perfect end to our unforgettable trip.
Must know: The total budget for the trip is ₹25,000 for the couple, with additional charges such as ride expenses, food costs, entry fees, and Gulmarg safety clothing, which amounts to ₹10,000 for two people.
Best Food to Try in Kashmir:
- Rajma Chawal on the Jammu-Srinagar highway for ₹120 per plate. A simple yet soul-satisfying meal.
- Raw Apple Juice near Pahalgam orchards for ₹50 per glass. Refreshing and delicious.
- Khwa Tea near Dal Lake, Srinagar, for ₹50 per cup. A must-try authentic Kashmiri experience.
Tips for a Better Experience in Kashmir:
- Late-night food was hard to find as most restaurants closed early.
- The cold temperatures were a challenge, but with warm clothes and essentials, they managed well.
- Also, packing smart warm clothes, socks, and ready-to-eat snacks is a must for winter trips to Kashmir.
- Since sunset happens early (around 4:30 PM), plan your activities accordingly.
- Always book your hotels and rides in advance, especially during the peak winter season, to avoid last-minute hassles.
Overall, our experience was incredible, from the majestic high hills and apple orchards to the snowy scenic roads and challenging Pahalgam trek trails. We enjoyed everything, from sipping Khawa tea to savouring flavourful Kashmiri pulao. The vibrant Kashmiri markets, the fine bakeries in Srinagar, the thrilling horse ride, and the gondola ride all added to the surreal experience.
