Greetings, fellow wanderlusters! In search of slow travel, history, and an epicurean adventure, my wife and I, Trisrota, embarked on a 4-day escape to Pondicherry, India’s former French enclave. Join us as we unveil the vibrant streets, ancient temples, sun-kissed beaches, and the delectable tapestry of flavors this charming city offers!
A Journey Steeped in History & Spirituality:
Our adventure began with an overnight bus ride from Bangalore, arriving in Pondicherry ready to explore. Immersing ourselves in the cultural fabric, we first visited the serene Aurobindo Ashram, followed by prayers at the ornate Manakula Vinayagar Temple.
A Feast for the Senses:
After a soul-nourishing morning, we indulged in a delicious lunch at Villa Krish before soaking in the French colonial architecture of Our Lady of Angels Church and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we strolled along the Promenade, indulging in croissants and cakes from Baker Street, and savored an unforgettable dinner at the renowned Coromandel Café.
Beach Bliss and Beyond:
Day two unveiled the secluded Paradise Beach, accessible by a quick boat ride. After a beachside lunch, we explored the certified Blue Flag Eden beach, finding solace in the shade of a beach shack. The vibrant streets of White Town awaited us in the afternoon, and the day concluded with a delightful dinner at Rendezvous Café.
Auroville’s Utopian Charm:
Venturing beyond Pondicherry, we embarked on a day trip to Auroville, a unique experimental township. We browsed the Auroville flea market, savored lunch at Villa Shanti, and enjoyed a serene evening beach stroll followed by coffee at Le Café and dinner at Madame Shanthe Café.
Savoring the Last Sips:
Our final day was dedicated to soaking in Pondicherry’s essence. We revisited our favorite food haunts and explored hidden gems like De Bluefin Seafood, a haven for seafood lovers.
