I’m excited to share the story of my recent trip to Mahabaleshwar. So, let’s dive into the details of our adventure. Mahabaleshwar is a favourite destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike, nestled in the Western Ghats. Also, it is a charming hill station that offers lush green landscapes, pleasant weather, and panoramic views.
Our Journey Begins from Delhi to Mahabaleshwar

Our trip started with a train journey from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station at 6 AM. My friend and I chose the train for its comfort and budget-friendliness. Also, the long journey was well worth it, as we reached Pune at 2 AM the following night. The train tickets cost us 3,000 INR each.
Moreover, from Pune Railway Station, we took a taxi to Mahabaleshwar, which cost us 3,000 INR for both of us. Likewise, the drive took around 3-4 hours, and we arrived in Mahabaleshwar around 7 AM, quite exhausted.

We checked into our hotel, Hotel Rahi Plaza, for 1,400 INR per night, and after some much-needed rest and breakfast, we were ready to explore.

Arthur’s Seat: The Queen of All Points
Our first stop was Arthur’s Seat, aptly known as the “Queen of All Points.” The panoramic views of the valleys and the Savitri River were breathtaking. Also, we savoured the cool breeze and stunning scenery while enjoying some street food, including delicious bhutta (corn) and chaat from local vendors.

Venna Lake: Boating and Bliss
Next, we visited Venna Lake, a popular spot for tourists. We rented a rowboat for 30 minutes at 250 INR, and rowing amidst the lush greenery was incredibly refreshing. Also, the serene environment of the lake made for a relaxing experience, and we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings.

Mapro Garden: A Strawberry Lover’s Paradise
Our next destination was Mapro Garden, famous for its strawberries. We explored the strawberry farms and indulged in heavenly strawberry ice cream and shakes. Also, the taste was divine, and we even bought some jams and syrups to take home. We also tried unique local snacks like strawberry bhel, which were both delicious and intriguing.

Mahabaleshwar Temple: Spiritual Serenity
Our first stop the next morning was the ancient Mahabaleshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also, the temple’s beautiful architecture and peaceful ambience offered a serene spiritual experience. We spent time praying and soaking in the tranquillity.

Wilson Point (Sunrise Point): A Magical Sunrise
We woke up early to visit Wilson Point, also known as Sunrise Point. The sunrise view was spectacular, with the sky painted in shades of orange and pink. Also, we captured some stunning photographs and enjoyed the peaceful morning.
Kate’s Point and Needle Hole Point: Scenic Wonders
After sunrise, we visited Kate’s Point and Needle Hole Point. Both spots offered breathtaking vistas of the Krishna Valley and Dhom Dam. Also, the unique natural rock formation at Needle Hole Point was particularly fascinating, and we spent time admiring the stunning scenery.
Bombay Point (Sunset Point): A Perfect End
In the evening, we headed to Bombay Point to watch the sunset. The view of the sun setting over the valleys and hills was magnificent. We also enjoyed local street food like vada pav and bhajiya while watching the sunset, which added to the experience.

Tips for Travelling to Mahabaleshwar: A Hill Station Gem
- Best Time to Visit Mahabaleshwar: October to June. The monsoon season (July to September) is lush but can be rainy. Also, pack light woollens for winter and light cotton clothes for summer. An umbrella or raincoat is essential for the monsoon.
- Essential Packing: comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a camera.
- Local Transportation: Rickshaws, autos, and taxis are available. Hiring a car can be a convenient option for exploring.
Must Know: For a 3-day trip for 2 people from Delhi to Mahabaleshwar, the estimated budget is around 30,000 INR. This includes a round-trip train ticket costing 12,000 INR, taxi fares from Pune to Mahabaleshwar totalling 6,000 INR, hotel accommodation at 2,800 INR for 2 nights, food and snacks amounting to 6,000 INR, local transportation expenses of about 1,500 INR, and activities such as boating at Venna Lake costing 500 INR. The budget also covers the return journey.
