I’m Shahen Shaikh, and last year, I embarked on a remarkable family trip to explore the captivating beauty of Himachal Pradesh. Our meticulously planned 11-day adventure was filled with vibrant attractions, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable experiences.
Planning and Preparation
Our journey began with booking flights for four of us, two months before our departure. The round-trip flights from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh cost us INR 68,000. To ensure smooth and comfortable travel, we hired a cab for the entire trip, which amounted to INR 24,000.
Day 1: Shimla – The Queen of Hills
We kicked off our adventure in Shimla, where we spent the day exploring its vibrant attractions. We strolled down the bustling Mall Road, marvelled at the majestic Christ Church, and visited the Jakhu Temple. Our cosy Airbnb accommodation in Shimla cost us INR 6,000.
Day 2: Kufri and Journey to Manali
The next day, we headed to Kufri, a picturesque spot near Shimla. We enjoyed horse riding and other activities, basking in the serene surroundings. By evening, we embarked on our journey to Manali, a scenic town nestled in the heart of the Himalayas.
Days 3-5: Manali – A Himalayan Haven
In Manali, we stayed at the Nature Bliss hotel, booked online for INR 10,000 for three nights. Our Manali exploration included visits to the Hidimba Devi Temple, Vashisht Temple, the Museum of Culture, and Old Manali. We also visited the Tibetan Monastery and Manali Mall Road.
On the second day in Manali, we booked a local car to explore the Rohtang Pass and Atal Tunnel. The journey through Spiti Valley and Khoksar was mesmerising. Our third day was dedicated to an exhilarating river rafting session in Kullu.
Days 6-7: Dharamshala – A Spiritual Retreat
Next, we proceeded to Dharamshala, where we stayed in a hotel near BhagsuNag for INR 4,000. Our one-day itinerary included Bhagsu Nag Temple, the Dalai Lama Temple, Mcleodganj, the Himachal Cricket Stadium, and the Army Museum. We also explored the local market near the temple.
Days 8-9: Dalhousie and Khajjiar – Mini Switzerland of India
That evening, we traveled to Dalhousie and checked into an Airbnb accommodation for INR 6,000. The next day, we headed to Khajjiar, often referred to as “Mini Switzerland.” We visited the Khajji Nag Devta Temple and the majestic Shiva Statue, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. On our return journey, we stopped at Panchpula Waterfall and experienced the serene ambiance of the Shiva Cafe.
In the evening, we explored the vibrant Dalhousie night market, known for its delicious food and local handicrafts.
Days 10-11: Back to Delhi via Chandigarh
The following day, we traveled back to Delhi, making a brief stop in Chandigarh. In Delhi, we stayed in a hotel for INR 4,000 and spent our last day visiting iconic landmarks such as India Gate, Lal Quila, and Jama Masjid.
