Shimla is a gem that sparkles with its picturesque landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. Moreover, from the moment I set foot in this charming hill station, I was captivated by its serene beauty and warm hospitality.
From Delhi’s Hustle to Shimla’s Calm

We left ISBT Kashmere Gate, Delhi, at 11:40 PM and got to Shimla at 9:30 AM. The bus tickets cost 500 INR each. Bus tickets cost ₹3,000 for two roundtrips, which is ₹1,500 per person.
I went with two friends. When we arrived, we booked a room at YMCA Tourist Hostel for 1700 INR per night. The hotel stay for three nights was ₹5,100.
Day 1: A Day of Shimla Sightseeing and Savouring

First, we visited The Ridge, a spacious area in Shimla with great panoramic views. We enjoyed some local street food, including Chole Bhature and hot tea. Also, the distance from The Ridge to Mall Road is about 500 metres on foot.
Next, we headed to Mall Road, Shimla’s main street lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants. We bought souvenirs and woollen clothes and had coffee at a local café. The atmosphere was lively.
In the afternoon, we went to Jakhoo Temple on Jakhoo Hill, the highest peak in Shimla. Moreover, you can reach Jakhoo Temple from Mall Road either by taxi or on foot. Also, we had Thukpa and Momos for lunch at a nearby stall. The temple provided breathtaking mountain views and a peaceful setting.
Day 2: A Day of Culture, Nature, and Tranquilly in Shimla

The next morning, we visited the Shimla State Museum, which has ancient artefacts, sculptures, paintings, and photos. Also, it was interesting to learn about Himachal Pradesh’s cultural and historical heritage. Entry was 20 INR per person.
After that, we went to Summer Hill, a scenic spot on Shimla’s outskirts. Moreover, the peaceful surroundings and greenery were a great escape from the city. Also, to travel from Shimla State Museum to Summer Hill, you can take a taxi.
We then took a short but enjoyable trek to Tara Devi Temple on a hilltop. The temple had stunning views of the valley. Also, Summer Hill is accessible from Tara Devi Temple by taxi and a short trek.
In the afternoon, we went to Chadwick Falls, a beautiful waterfall in a dense forest. You can reach Chadwick Falls from Tara Devi Temple by taxi. Also, we relaxed by the falls, taking in the natural beauty and tranquillity.
Day 3: Last Day in Shimla—Shopping and Savouring Local Delights

On our last day, we visited Lakkar Bazaar, famous for its wooden handicrafts and souvenirs. We tried local snacks like Aloo Tikki and Jalebi and bought unique wooden items to take home.To get from Chadwick Falls to Lakkar Bazaar, you can use a taxi or an autorickshaw.

Must Know: Food and snacks were estimated to cost approximately ₹3,000. Also, the local transportation expenses were around ₹2,000. Moreover, entry fees and miscellaneous expenses, including shopping, totaled approximately ₹2,000.
Shimla Survival Guide Essential Tips:
- Best Season to Visit: March to June and September to November. Also, the weather is cool and pleasant in summer and cold in winter with occasional snow.
- Essential Packing: warm clothes, comfortable walking shoes, raincoat or umbrella, sunscreen, and a first-aid kit.
Pro Tip: Start your day early to avoid crowds, stay hydrated, and respect local customs and traditions.
In total, the budget amounted to approximately ₹15,100. Our trip to Shimla was amazing. Also, we saw stunning views, explored historical sites, and experienced the lively local culture.
