Embarking on a spiritual pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi Temple is an experience that many dream of. For my family and friends, this journey became a memorable adventure filled with devotion, excitement, and shared joy. Our trip, in the month of March 2024. Also, I went on a trip to Vaishno Devi with my best friend, also named Aayushi, my family, and my father’s friends—a total of nine people. Moreover, the total budget for Vaishno Devi Budget of the Journey was ₹30000.
Day 1: Departure and Arrival in Vaishno Devi

Our adventure began with an overnight train ride from Jhansi to Katra, the gateway to Vaishno Devi. Also, the train journey was smooth, and we reached Katra at night. Moreover, the accommodation near the Katra bus stand was ₹1,000 per non-AC room per night. We booked 3 rooms for 3 days.
After a brief rest, we prepared ourselves for the pilgrimage. Likewise, the excitement was real as we anticipated the ascent to the holy place.
Tip: Ensure your travel documents are in order and keep your original Aadhar card handy for obtaining the Yatra ID card.
Day 2: Ascent to Vaishno Devi

We started our ascent to the Vaishno Devi Bhavan early in the morning. Also, the trek covers a distance of 13 kilometres, and while some of us opted for the convenience of horses, the rest of us, affectionately termed the “bacha party,” decided to walk. Despite the initial challenge, the journey was exhilarating, and we completed it in just 3.5 hours.
The trail was well-paved and offered stunning views of the surrounding landscape. We took breaks, enjoyed mountain Maggi from local stalls, and marvelled at the natural beauty around us.
Tip: Pack light if travelling during autumn and carry a raincoat or umbrella as the weather can be unpredictable.
Day 3: Darshan and Exploration at Vaishno Devi

Reaching the Bhavan was a profound experience. The darshan was peaceful, and the temple’s ambience was filled with devotion and tranquillity. Also, the satvik kadhi chawal served at the temple was delicious and cost-effective at ₹50 per plate. Moreover, the simplicity and purity of the meal were perfectly in tune with the spiritual setting.
In the afternoon, we visited Bhairon Nath Temple. The ropeway ride to the temple was a highlight, offering breathtaking views and costing ₹100 for a round trip. Likewise, it was a smooth and enjoyable experience, adding to the overall pleasure of the pilgrimage.
Tip: Book the new electric bus service online in advance if you plan to use it. This will ensure a hassle-free experience.
Day 4: Local Temples and Market Exploration of Vaishno Devi

We also visited Bhairav Ghati using the ropeway, which was easy and cost ₹100 for a round trip. Also, the new electric bus service needs to be booked online in advance.
After completing our pilgrimage, we descended and spent the next day exploring local temples and the bustling Katra market. Moreover, the market was vibrant, with various shops selling religious items and local souvenirs. Also, we also took the time to savour some local street food, which was a delightful addition to our culinary experiences.
Tip: Bargain for auto rickshaw rides and other local services to get the best rates.
Day 5: Departure of Vaishno Devi
Our journey concluded with our return to Jhansi. The train ride back was filled with reflections on our spiritual journey and the shared memories of our trip. Also, it was a heartfelt conclusion to an enriching experience.
Tip: The best time to travel is in March during Gupt Navratri; we enjoyed beautiful flower decorations from Bangalore. After the darshan, we walked back down, which was tiring for us kids.
