Also, Wayanad is a beautiful hill station in Kerala. Known for its stunning scenery, wildlife, and rich cultural heritage. With three days, I had plenty of time to explore the best of what Wayanad has to offer.
A Scenic Route to Wayanad via Mysore
To avoid traffic, leave Bangalore early in the morning. Head towards Mysore on the Bangalore-Mysore Road (NH275). Also, the fuel cost for the trip from Bangalore to Wayanad is ₹1500.
Once in Mysore, take the Nanjangud-Gundlupet Road (NH766), which will lead you to Wayanad. Along the way, you can grab breakfast in Nanjangud for ₹300.
Also, we enjoy a wildlife safari at the famous Bandipur National Park for ₹1000. Soak up the beautiful views of forests and hills as you continue your journey to Wayanad. We also had lunch en route for ₹500.

Upon arrival, we checked into Zostel Wayanad. It’s near Kanthanpara Waterfalls , Chembra Peak, Soochipara Falls , and Pookode Lake. Also, amenities include evening entertainment and luggage storage. Moreover, Rooms feature desks, private bathrooms, free WiFi, and some have balconies. Bed linen is provided.
3 Days Itinerary of Wayanad:
Day 1: Arriving in Wayanad
After arriving in Wayanad, we relaxed at the hostel. Chatting with fellow travellers or exploring the nearby area.
Day 2: Unveiling Nature’s Secrets of Wayanad
I started my day with a visit to Edakkal Caves, an ancient site with rock carvings. The entry fee for Falls is ₹50.Then, head to Soochipara Falls for a swim and scenic views; the entry fee was ₹80.
We enjoy lunch at a local spot, savouring Kerala cuisine like Malabar Parotta with Chicken Curry or Kerala Sadhya. Lunch at a local restaurant costs ₹600. Afterward, visit Pookode Lake for boating or a peaceful walk. Boating cost us ₹300.
In the evening, we explored the local markets in Kalpetta or Sultan Bathery for souvenirs. Also, shopping in the local markets amounts to ₹1000. After that, we returned to Zostel Wayanad for dinner and relaxation.
Day 3: Exploring the Hidden Gems of Wayanad and Departure
We kicked off our exploration in Wayanad with a visit to Thirunelli Temple, a serene ancient temple tucked away in the scenic Brahmagiri Hills.
After the temple visit, we made our way to Meenmutty Waterfalls, a stunning natural wonder. Getting there involved a short trek through the lush forest, but the view was totally worth it. The entry fee for Meenmutty Waterfalls is ₹50.
We then grabbed lunch at a nearby local eatery, treating ourselves to some delicious Kerala snacks like Pazham Pori (banana fritters) and Kozhi Varutharacha Curry (chicken curry). Lunch at a local eatery costs ₹400.
Before heading back to Bangalore, make a quick stop at the Banasura Sagar Dam, which happens to be the largest earth dam in India. The entry fee for Banasura Sagar Dam is ₹20. Then, continue your journey homeward, aiming to reach Bangalore by late evening.
Optimal Season for Visiting Wayanad:
The best time to visit Wayanad is from November to February. During these months, the weather is pleasant, with cool days and cold nights, making it the perfect season to explore Wayanad’s tourist spots.
Essential Packing List for Your Wayanad Adventure:
- Wear light cotton or linen for the hot weather.
- Also, bring a hat, sunglasses, flip-flops or open shoes for sightseeing, and running shoes for trekking.
- Moreover, don’t forget sunscreen, chapstick, and deodorant.
- Umbrella or waterproof jacket, as rainfall is possible even in the dry season.

- Carry a water bottle and stay hydrated, especially during outdoor activities in the humid climate.
