Hello travel enthusiasts, Sidhant here!!!
In early January, my family and I embarked on a spiritual journey to Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, known for its ancient temples and rich cultural heritage. Our four-day trip fill with spiritual visits, fascinating historical sites, and delightful experiences, even though we face few challenges. It was the spring season in January.
The total budget for the trip is approximately 70,000 INR for all four of us.
Guide to Reach Bhubaneswar
After checking into our hotel, we took some time to settle in and relax. The evening was free, so we explore the local area and prepared for the exciting days ahead.
Flight costs amount to 40,000 INR for a round trip for four people. Accommodation expenses are 5,000 INR per night for two rooms. We estimate around 2,000 INR per day for food, including meals at restaurants and street food.
Pilgrimage to Puri Jagannath Temple and Konark
After a hearty breakfast, we set off for the iconic Puri Jagannath Temple, which is about an hour and a half drive from Bhubaneswar. The temple, dedicates to Lord Jagannath, is a significant pilgrimage site, and it was pack with devotees, as always. One fascinating aspect of the temple is its flag, which mysteriously waves against the wind’s direction, a sight that left us in awe. The entire temple is carved out of a single massive rock, showcasing incredible ancient craftsmanship.
After seeking blessings, we headed to Puri Beach to enjoy some serene moments by the sea. The soothing waves and the cool breeze provided a much-needed respite from the hustle of the temple.
Next, we visited the Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Before exploring, we stopped for lunch at a local restaurant, which was a mix of simple and traditional fare. The Sun Temple, famous for its chariot-shape architecture, was partially destroyed but is now being restored by the government. The on-site museum gave us a glimpse into the temple’s history and significance. We spent time wandering around the temple complex and enjoying the peaceful park area.
After a fulfilling day, we returned to our hotel around 7 PM, feeling spiritually enriched and content.
Must Know: Local transportation by cabs will cost about 1,200 INR per day.
Exploring Hidden Temple in Bhubaneswar Lingaraj Temple and Dhauli
Post-breakfast, we headed to the Lingaraj Temple, another magnificent temple that often goes unnoticed due to its commercialised surroundings. This temple is even older than the Puri Jagannath Temple and known for its intricate architecture, both inside and out. The ancient idols and carvings added a mystical aura to the experience.
Later, we visited Dhauli, located at the foothills, which is a significant Buddhist site. This peaceful location, marked by a large white peace pagoda, provided a stark contrast to the bustling city. Moreover, Dhauli is a great spot to reflect and find inner peace, making it an essential part of our spiritual journey.
By evening, we returned to the hotel, ready to rest and prepare for our departure the next day.
Also, our trip concludes with an early morning flight from Bhubaneswar Airport at 8 AM. We left with hearts full of peace and memories of a beautiful, spiritual journey.
Must Know: Entry fees are 100 INR per person for both the Konark Sun Temple and the Puri Jagannath Temple.

- Also, always pack essential medicines, as different climates can sometimes lead to minor health issues.
- Moreover, opt for cabs for convenient travel between various sites. They are readily available and relatively affordable.
