Embarking on a journey is always exciting, but when the destination promises a blend of vibrant city life, rich history, and serene nature, the excitement reaches new heights. I set out to explore the best of Karnataka, covering the bustling city of Bengaluru, the royal heritage of Mysuru, and the tranquil beauty of Coorg with my 4 female friends. Also, join us as we dive into a four-day adventure with unforgettable experiences, mouthwatering local cuisine, and breathtaking sights.
A Bengaluru and Coorg Adventure Begins:
The excitement of a new adventure was palpable as we boarded our early morning flight to Bengaluru. By 8 AM, we had landed in the bustling city and immediately set off for our first destination: Coorg. The cab ride was a scenic journey through the outskirts of Bengaluru, and we discovered a charming local eatery. Also, the aroma of freshly cooked breakfast was irresistible, and we savoured every bite. Moreover, the rain accompanied us throughout the drive, adding a magical touch to the landscape.
We reached Coorg around 3 PM and checked into our cosy hostel, GoStops. Nestled amidst lush greenery, it offered breathtaking views that made our stay memorable. In the evening, we visited The Big Cup Café, a local gem renowned for its coffee. Also, the rain-soaked surroundings made our coffee experience even more delightful. On our way back, we met a friendly rickshaw driver who offered his number and helped us plan our sightseeing for the next day.
Travel tip: Travel options include a flight costing around ₹3,000 or a train ticket ranging from ₹500 to ₹700 per person. Also, for local transportation, a cab for the whole day costs₹7,000, while a rickshaw can be hired for₹4,000 for all passengers.
Coorg: A Nature Lover’s Paradise:
The second day began with a delicious South Indian breakfast at a nearby Udupi restaurant, filling us with the energy we needed for a day of exploration. Our itinerary included some of Coorg’s most iconic spots:
- Abbey Falls: The powerful, cascading waterfalls were a sight to behold, leaving us in awe of nature’s beauty.
- Raja’s Seat: Here, we soaked in panoramic views of the rolling hills and valleys, a perfect spot for reflection.
- Raja’s Tomb: A historical site that offered a glimpse into Coorg’s regal past.
- Madikeri Fort & Govt. Museum: A deeper dive into the region’s history and culture.
- Coffee Plantations: We were fascinated by the process of coffee production and the variety of plants that thrive in this region.
- Golden Temple of Coorg: A serene and spiritual end to our day’s sightseeing.
Before returning to our hostel, we indulged in some shopping at the government emporium, where we picked up beautiful sarees made from banana silk, a unique local speciality.
Discovering Mysuru’s Royal Palaces:
The third day we saw rising early for our journey to Mysuru, a city steeped in royal history. Our route included two unique stops:
- Nisargadhama Bird Sanctuary:
Here, we found ourselves amidst a vibrant array of bird species. Feeding the birds and posing with an exotic parrot were highlights of our morning.
- Harangi Dam Reservoir:
A short hike led us to this serene spot, where we had the chance to feed elephants, an experience that connected us with nature in a profound way.
By 6 PM, we arrived in Mysuru, where the evening was spent leisurely exploring the cafes and food spots around our hostel, Zostel. Also, the city’s laidback charm was a refreshing contrast to our earlier adventures.
A Final Mysuru Day:
Our final day began with a visit to the majestic Mysuru Palace at 10 AM. Its grandeur and architectural brilliance left us speechless, a fitting climax to our journey. Later, we boarded a scenic train back to Bengaluru, arriving at 7 PM. Also, the day concluded with a relaxed visit to a local mall and a fulfilling dinner, where we fondly reminisced about the incredible experiences of the past four days.

The Best Time to Travel to Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Coorg:
Visiting Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Coorg during the rainy season from July to September immerses you in nature’s vibrant green embrace. In Bengaluru, the rain refreshes the city’s hustle. Mysuru’s historical sites gain a mystical charm in the drizzle. Coorg, the ‘Scotland of India,’ transforms into a misty paradise with waterfalls in full flow and fog-covered coffee plantations.
Necessary Things to Pack:
- Raincoats/Jackets: Essential during monsoons as umbrellas are ineffective in windy weather.
- Hair Dryer: Handy not just for drying hair but also for clothes and other wet items.
Travel Tips for Beginners:
- Travelling during peak monsoons can make it challenging to enjoy scenic views due to heavy fog and rain.
- Also, the surroundings are beautiful but often shrouded in fog, limiting visibility.
- Moreover, it’s recommended to visit during late monsoons or winter for better views and a more enjoyable experience.
Must Know: The trip included a total of 5 people, with an overall budget of approximately ₹60,000 to ₹65,000, covering transport, accommodation, food, entry fees, and sightseeing. The group spent ₹6,000 on food for all five members.
Our trip to Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Coorg was an unforgettable adventure. Despite the monsoon challenges, the stunning landscapes and cultural experiences made it all worthwhile.
