Four years ago, I decided to follow my passion for travel full-time. Also, my connection with the mountains and my photography and writing skills are the ways I showcase the beauty of my country. In 2021, I began my year with one of the most thrilling adventures of my life—the Chadar Trek. Moreover, this 7-day journey on the frozen land has been a dream of mine since 2018. I had never experienced sub-zero temperatures before, but I made it happen.
The Thrill of the Chadar Trek:
The Chadar Trek enthrals adventurers with its thrilling nature and offers breathtaking views of the Zanskar Valley. Also, waking up to a warm cup of Kahwa in our tents, night camping on the frozen river, and the beautiful faces of my fellow travellers made this journey unforgettable. Moreover, walking for hours on the frozen river in gumboots was a unique experience, and reaching the campsite each evening to pitch tents and celebrate another day of safe travel was fun.
Chadar Trek Chronicles: Bonding with Bonfires and Stories:
Hanging out with the local porters, fondly called ‘kakas,’ in their cosy kitchen tents was a highlight of the journey. Also, we laughed, shared stories, and had bonfire sessions that made the experience unforgettable. Moreover, the bond we created during those jam-packed nights is something I’ll always treasure.
The Best Time for Chadar Trekking Adventures:
The perfect time for the Chadar Trek is from January to early February. When temperatures reach their coldest the river freezes completely.
Tips for Future Trekkers:
For those who wish to embark on a similar adventure, here are some tips:
- Be prepared: Check the weather and pack right; warm clothes, gumboots, and camping gear are must-haves.
- Also, get used to the cold before you start your trek.
- Moreover, team up with local tour operators for expert guides and safe trekking support.
- Dive into local culture for a deeper journey.
- Likewise, step out of your comfort zone and savour simple joys like bonfire chats and swapping tales with fellow travellers.
