A 2-Day Blissful Retreat in Shillong itinerary
- Day 1: Exploring Elephant Falls and Umiam Lake
We started the trip by visiting the beautiful Elephant Falls, a natural wonder surrounded by greenery. The reasonably priced ticket allowed us to enjoy this amazing sight. Also,we took a scenic 15 km route, smoothly travelling through picturesque landscapes in rickshaws.
Next up was Umiam Lake, famous for its stunning beauty and peaceful ambience. We enjoyed leisurely boat activities, spent the evening exploring lively local markets, and had famous Shillong street food.
- Day 2: Visiting the Rhino Heritage Museum
On the second day, we started by visiting the Rhino Heritage Museum in Shillong. The museum offered a deep dive into the local cultural heritage. We bought the tickets and explored the museum’s various exhibits. The 10 km journey was smooth, thanks to the well-connected rickshaw transportation in Shillong.
As the day in Shillong came to an end, we took a leisurely walk through the renowned local markets and enjoyed trying the lively street food.
Best Accommodation in Shillong
We stayed at the Hotel Janeria which is located in lush greenery, for Rs. 3,000 per night. It was a cosy retreat for a short getaway.
Foods to try in Shillong
- Shillong’s street food, featuring Jadoh, Tungrymbai, and Momos, is a must-try food near Umiam Lake.
- On the second day, exploring local markets and trying street food specialities like Wai Wai Noodles and Jhalmuri added a delightful touch to their Shillong experience.
Best Time to Visit Shillong
The best time to enjoy Shillong’s captivating landscapes is from March to June, with pleasant weather. Exploring the city’s attractions was made easy by riding in rickshaws, making it effortless for us to discover the gems of the city.

In March, Shillong enjoys mild weather with occasional rain, averaging low 70s F (low 20s C).

- A rain jacket to layer with a coat.
- 100% waterproof footwear.
- Basic First Aid Kits.
- Important IDs and documents.
- Keep both warm and light clothes.
- Carry cash (in case of network issues).
