Amid February’s chill, I, Shubha Tiwari, found myself yearning for warmth and vibrancy. Thus, I set forth on a journey to Rajasthan, where the sun-soaked cities of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer awaited, promising a tapestry woven with history, culture, and natural splendour. Join me as I unveil the treasures of this mesmerising region, sharing tales of exploration, insights, and practical tips to guide your adventure.
Jodhpur: A City Painted in Blue
As the overnight train chugged into Jodhpur, the promise of warmth seeped into my bones. Moustache Hostel became my cosy haven, and I wasted no time seeking the city’s charm. Cafe Filos’ terrace view stole my breath away – the perfect spot to soak in the azure expanse of Kaylana Lake. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky exploded with fiery hues, painting the lake’s surface in shimmering colors.
Desert Rocks and Blue Streets
With the first light of dawn, I ventured into the wilderness of Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park. Nature’s wonders unfolded in the soft morning glow, a stark contrast to the bustling maze of markets and ancient architecture that awaited me in the heart of Jodhpur. Joining a walking tour, I meandered through the Blue City’s labyrinthine streets. Every twist and turn revealed a new story etched in cobalt hues.
Embracing Jodhpur’s Majestic Legacy
A new day brought an adventure through history. Hiring an auto for the day, I embarked on a pilgrimage to Umaid Palace, Jaswant Thada, and the crowning jewel – Mehrangarh Fort. The thrill of zip-lining from its towering ramparts sent a rush of adrenaline coursing through me. Before bidding farewell to Jodhpur’s storied past, Mandore Garden offered a tranquil respite.
Jaisalmer: A Desert Oasis Beckons
Under the starry desert sky, I arrived in Jaisalmer, where the allure of Woblin Safari awaited (but that’s a story for another time!). The following day, the fabled Tanah Lot Temple greeted me – a place where spirituality mingled with the desert breeze. Exploring the border village and Longewala War Museum, I witnessed the poignant spectacle of the border closing ceremony, a testament to the enduring human spirit.
Golden Splendor: Exploring Jaisalmer’s Treasures
Gadisar Lake shimmered with a symphony of colors as I welcomed the sunrise. Within the confines of Fort City, I lost myself in a whirlwind of markets, temples, and hidden alleyways. Each corner whispered tales of Jaisalmer’s illustrious past. A delicious meal at Kaku Cafe provided the perfect vantage point to witness the sunset at Suli Dungri, painting the city in shades of molten gold.
Farewell to Rajasthan’s Splendor
With a heavy heart, I bid adieu to Jaisalmer’s golden sands, savoring the last moments of this incredible journey. Bada Bagh offered a poignant reminder of the land’s timeless allure before boarding the train back to Gurgaon, my soul brimming with memories woven into the fabric of Rajasthan’s rich tapestry.
