Hello travel enthusiasts,
Meet me Gajendra Prajapati is a passionate traveller with an adventurous spirit. My love for exploring historical and cultural treasures led him to embark on a memorable day trip to Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, in May. Also, accompanied by a friend, this journey was filled with fascinating sights, hidden gems, and delectable street food, all on a modest budget of ₹3500 for two people.
The Journey Begins in Gwalior
At the break of dawn, my friend and I set off on a road trip from Jhansi, departing at 6 AM in our car. Also, by 8 AM, we reached Gwalior, ready to explore the city’s rich history and vibrant culture.
Gwalior Fort: A Historical Marvel
Our first stop was the iconic Gwalior Fort, a majestic structure perched on a hilltop. The fort, with its stunning architecture and panoramic views, was a perfect start to their adventure. Also, we visited the Sas Bahu Temple and a Gurdwara within the fort complex. While wandering, we stumbled upon a mysterious site filled with intricately carved statues; a place we later discovered was the Gopanchal Parvat, a hidden gem related to Jainism.
Entry Fee: Gwalior Fort: ₹75 per person
Gwalior Zoo: A Wildlife Haven
Next, we headed to the Gwalior Zoo, where we spent time observing a variety of animals and birds. Also, the zoo provided a refreshing break from the historical sites and offered a glimpse into the region’s wildlife.
Entry Fee: Gwalior Zoo is ₹50 per person.
Culinary Delights at Choupati
As hunger struck, my friend and I made our way to Choupati, a bustling food hub near the zoo. Renowned for its variety of street food, Choupati did not disappoint. Moreover, we indulge in a wide range of dishes, with prices ranging from ₹20 to ₹200 per item, savouring the local flavours until we are fully satisfied.
Jai Vilas Palace: A Royal Museum
The next stop was the Jai Vilas Palace, a grand former residence of Gwalior’s Maharaja, now transformed into a museum. Also, we marvelled at the palace’s opulent interiors and fascinating antiques, including the famous silver train used to serve food at the royal dining table.
Entry Fee: Jai Vilas Palace is ₹300 per person.
Tighra Dam: A Serene Retreat
Our final destination was the Tighra Dam, a tranquil spot perfect for relaxation. Moreover, we enjoyed a peaceful boating session, taking in the serene surroundings and reflecting on their day’s adventures.
