Hello, my travel wanderlust!!! I’m Mudit, a working professional and passionate traveller from Delhi. Amidst the city’s chaos, I felt a deep longing to escape and embrace nature. Also, this urge grew stronger until it became irresistible. Spontaneously, I decided to head to the mountains for a weekend adventure in Bir, Himachal Pradesh.
From Delhi to Bir: A Himalayan Adventure Begins
I felt a thrill of excitement as I boarded the overnight bus at 7:30 p.m. from Kashmiri Gate, Delhi, to Bir, Himachal Pradesh. The concrete city slowly transformed into rolling hills. At dawn, the majestic Himalayas greeted me. The mountain vibes filled me with joy and energy. Also, the bus round trip cost me Rs. 3000.
Bir Trip Accommodation Guide:
First, I stayed at Pink Park, sharing a room with two others. My share was Rs. 600 plus taxes, totaling around Rs. 1800. Also, in Barot Valley, I stayed at Zostel for around Rs. 1000.
Day 1: Arrival at Bir’s and Exploring its Beauty
Upon reaching Bir around 8 a.m., the locals’ warm hospitality welcomed me. Their smiling faces made me feel right at home in this quaint mountain town. Also, I checked into a cosy guest house surrounded by towering pine trees. After chilling for about an hour, I grabbed my backpack and headed out to explore Bir.
The first stop was Bangoru Waterfall. The winding trails whispered promises of adventure and discovery. Also, with every step deeper into the wilderness, I was overwhelmed by the sheer grandeur of nature around me. Moreover, the trail wound through forests, streams, and waterfalls. Likewise, closer to the mountains, every step felt alive. At the Waterfall, awestruck. Connected to the land, gratitude filled me.
After a few hours, I returned to Bir and visited the Palpung Sherabling monastery in pine meadows. Also, I met monks chanting Buddha’s mantras.
In the evening, I spent my time at the Bir landing site to witness the sunset. After a fun day, I wandered cobbled streets filled with delicious Himachali cuisine. Also, in a cosy ARA Cafe, I enjoyed hot momos, spicy thukpa, and steaming siddu for Rs. 275.
Each bite was delightful, and the flavours were amusing. The spices and ingredients’ freshness were a culinary paradise. Appreciating Himachal’s vibrant culture with every bite.
Day 2: Barot Valley, Hiking Hanuman Garh, and Starry Skies
The next day, I packed and headed to Barot Valley, surrounded by mountains and trails. I was also planning to ride a bike, but the weather intervened. Thanks to clouds and downpours. So, I hired a car instead, navigating muddy roads and water splashes. I finally reached the hostel in Rajgundha, surrounded by mountains.
I had lunch, made friends, and hiked to Hanuman Garh, about 3 hours from the village, with them. We also started our hike around 1 p.m. and reached the point of crossing concrete roads, small trails, lush green meadows, and paths covered with snow to witness the beauty of the mountains with a 360-degree panoramic view.
For us, it was easier to descend the peak to reach our hostel before it got dark. As night fell, I found myself drawn to the peaceful vibes of the mountains. Wrapped in a cosy blanket, I found a sheltered spot overlooking the valley, and I lay beneath twinkling stars. Under a giant, starry sky, shooting stars blazed through the night. Peaceful and amazed, I felt the universe whisper secrets.
Pro tip: We hired an Alto for the trip, costing us Rs. 1800 in total. Also, my share was Rs. 600.
Day 3: Bir Goodbye: Memories Made, Heart Full
In the morning, I knew it was time to leave Rajgundha. The next step was to head back to Bir, and I made my way to the nearby paragliding centre. Also, Paragliding costs Rs. 2,000 per person. The adrenaline coursed through my veins as I strapped myself into the harness and prepared for takeoff. With a running start, I launched myself off the cliff and into the open sky.
Excitement surged as I strapped into the harness, readying for takeoff. With a quick start, I leapt off the cliff, soaring into the boundless sky.
The wind whispered as I soared high, weightless, and free. Also, the world below is miniature, gliding effortlessly. Moreover, I landed safely and experienced something extraordinary.
Reflecting on adventures, sights, and people I met. Each moment is a precious gift, a reminder of the human spirit’s beauty and resilience. So, it was time to board the bus to Delhi, amidst towering peaks and whispering pines.
