A Guide on How to Reach Kashmir:
To reach Srinagar, you have a couple of options. Also, you can fly directly to Srinagar’s airport, or if you prefer a scenic journey, take a train to Jammu and then hop on a bus, flight, or car to Srinagar. Either way, you’ll be on your way to experiencing the beauty of Kashmir in no time. Also, you can reach Srinagar by air or take a train to Jammu, followed by a bus ride.
Top Destinations to Explore in Kashmir During the Season
- Srinagar:
The city of lakes, gardens, and bridges. If you ever dreamt of witnessing city life while still being amidst nature, Srinagar is the city of your dreams.
Places to see: Well, every corner in Kashmir is a sight to behold, but here are some places to add to your bucket list.
- Astanmarg
- Nishat Bagh
- Downtown
- Pari Mahal
- Dal Lake
- Nigeen Lake
- Yusmarg:
Yusmarg, which means the meadow of Jesus, is a hidden gem of Kashmir. Also, you can do a day trip as it is just 2-3 hours away from Srinagar. Moreover, you will see long stretches of green pastures and rivers flowing through the beautiful meadows, which is the best part.
- Doodhpathri:
Again, an offbeat destination, this place had me in awe. The river here flows vigorously and looks white, which is why they call it Doodhpathri. Also, you can explore this place on foot or take a pony ride, which costs you around Rs. 400–600.
- Gulmarg:
It is famously known as the winter wonderland of India, but don’t be mistaken; it is equally a paradise in the summer.
If you go from mid-June to mid-July, you will be astonished to see lupins and white daisies covering the landscape.
- Gurez:
It is the king of offbeat places and one of the most serene and raw sides of Kashmir. Also, keep at least 2–3 nights here as there are multiple places to explore, and the travel time from Srinagar is almost 6 hours.
Places to visit:
- Haba Khatoon
- Log Hut Cafe
- Khandiyal Heights
- Camping Site
- Tulail Village
When in Tulail Village, go for lunch at any of the homestays, and trust me, you will forget about the 5-star properties. Also, with beautiful mountains, flowers, and wind on your face, it is a pinch-me moment every second!
- Pahalgam:
Pahalgam looks extremely beautiful with its Lidder River flowing all around and lush greenery everywhere, but we skipped this during the summer trip due to the Amarnath Yatra. Also, if you are travelling from the end of June to July, check the dates of the yatra and skip Pahalgam and Sonmarg to avoid rush hour and security checks.
Local Dishes to Try in Kashmir:
Don’t miss out on these delicious local dishes when you’re in Kashmir:
- Wazwan: A traditional multi-course meal with flavorful dishes like Rogan Josh and Rista.
- Kehwa: a fragrant green tea infused with spices like saffron, cardamom, and cinnamon.
- Noon Chai: Also known as pink tea, it’s a salty and creamy tea with a distinctive pink colour.
- Saag: A hearty dish made with leafy greens like spinach or mustard leaves, cooked with spices, and often served with rice or bread.
Choosing the Perfect Time to Experience Paradise, Kashmir:
Kashmir is a year-round destination and is one of the few places witnessing all four seasons: summer, winter, spring, and autumn. Kashmir is a heaven on earth, not just because of its beautiful landscapes but also because of its warm-hearted people.
Also, the hospitality of Kashmiris will win your hearts, so trust me.
Travel Tips and Packing Guide for Your Kashmir Expedition:
- Kashmir experiences different weather patterns throughout the year. Ensure you pack suitable clothing based on the current weather forecast.
- Also, pack clothing suitable for the season. In summer, lightweight and breathable fabrics are ideal. In winter, pack warm layers, including sweaters, jackets, and thermals. Don’t forget to bring comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots.
- Carry some snacks like energy bars, nuts, or dried fruits for quick energy boosts during your travels.
- Moreover, pack a water bottle and stay hydrated all the time.
- Comfortable shoes for walking and hiking.
As I conclude this journey, let’s remember the essence of Kashmir in these lines: “Jo Rooh ko Sukoon de aur Dil ko Khushi, Kashmir aisi Haqiqat hai jo Khwaab se bhi Sundar lagti hai!”
