Hello fellow travellers and spiritual seekers!
My name is Chetan Marwah, and I recently embarked on a soul-enriching journey with two friends. We planned to explore some of India’s most revered spiritual sites. Over five days in April, we travelled from Delhi to the sacred temples of Somnath, Dwarka, and Nageshwar. We experienced the awe of visiting two Jyotirlingas and one of the Char Dhams. This journey was more than a trip; it was a meaningful exploration of our roots, a chance to connect deeply with our spiritual heritage.
Day 1: Delhi to Somnath—The Start of a Sacred Journey

Our journey began with an early morning train from Hazrat Nizamuddin Station in Delhi, taking us to Vadodara by evening 5:30 PM. From there, we caught another train to Veraval, the town closest to Somnath, arriving early the next morning at 5:30 AM. Eager to start our pilgrimage, we took a short auto ride (₹30) to Somnath Temple, where the spiritual energy was palpable.
After arriving in Veraval, we took a quick auto ride (₹30) to Somnath Temple, where we freshened up. There are two Somnath Temples—the old and the new—just a 2-3 minute walk apart, and it’s worthwhile to visit both. After receiving blessings, we explored 3 to 4 nearby temples. Also, enjoyed the light and sound show at Somnath Temple (₹200 per person) if time allowed.
Day 2: Somnath to Dwarka—Discovering the Land of Krishna

We departed at 7 PM to catch a train from Veraval to Dwarka, arriving around 5:30 AM. Instead of booking a hotel, we used the IRCTC lounge at the station (₹70 per hour) to freshen up and prepare for Darshan. By 7 AM, we were on our way to the Dwarkadhish Temple, just a 20-minute ride from the station.
After receiving blessings at Dwarkadhish Temple, we had breakfast. After that hire an auto for the day (₹1000) to visit the main attractions.
First, we visited Bet Dwarka, believed to be the ancient residence of Lord Krishna. We also followed the iconic Rukmini Temple, dedicated to Krishna’s consort. Our final stop for the day was Nageshwar Jyotirlinga, marking our second Jyotirlinga of the trip.
Pro tip: If time allows, you can relax on the beach near Dwarkadhish Temple before heading back to the railway station.

Day 3: Dwarka to Ahmedabad and Return to Delhi—Completing the Pilgrimage

Originally, we planned to travel to Vadodara and then back to Delhi. But after a packed itinerary, we opted to head to Ahmedabad instead. After arriving in Ahmedabad the next morning, we made the most of our time by visiting Bapu Dham and the serene Sabarmati Riverfront before catching a flight back to Delhi. After days of train travel, a flight felt like the perfect conclusion to our journey.
Must know: Total expenses for travel, food, and accommodation (excluding flights): approximately ₹9,000 per person. Also, for those choosing flights both ways (Delhi to Delhi), add around₹8,000 per person.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. It was a memorable experience exploring these sacred sites.
