I am a final-year BTech student excited to share my travel story to Spiti Valley with my friends. Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh is a haven for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts. Also, known for its rugged landscapes, ancient monasteries, and clear skies, Spiti offers a unique and exhilarating escape from city life.
Getting to Spiti Valley: Your Travel Guide

Our adventure started with a flight from Ranchi (IXR) to Delhi (DEL), costing us around 6,000 INR each.
Also, after an 8–10 hour flight, we hopped on a Volvo bus from Delhi’s ISBT Kashmere Gate to Manali, which set us back 900 INR per person and took about 12–13 hours.
Moreover, from Manali, we embarked on another bus journey to Spiti Valley (Kaza), costing 800 INR each and lasting around 11–12 hours. It was a long haul, but the excitement kept us going!
Arriving in Spiti Valley and Our Comfortable Stays:
Thankfully, we had pre-booked our stay at Zostel Spiti for 1600 INR per night. Also, travelling with three friends, we headed straight to the hotel, our bodies craving rest after the long journey. Moreover, exhausted, we crashed for the night. The next morning, full of fresh energy, we set out to explore the beauty of Spiti Valley.
Must Know: Accommodation at Zostel Spiti costs 1,600 INR per night. For two nights, the total came to 3,200 INR.
Day 1: Exploring Kaza and Chandratal Lake

Our adventure began in Kaza, the heart of Spiti Valley. Surrounded by breathtaking mountains and deep gorges, this charming town mixes traditional Sicilian architecture with modern conveniences. Also, we wandered through the local market, picked up souvenirs, and enjoyed the warm hospitality of the locals. Moreover, the fresh mountain air and peaceful vibe made our visit unforgettable. We also explored the nearby Key Monastery, which offered stunning valley views.
Next, we journeyed to Chandratal Lake, also known as “Moon Lake.” Also, the turquoise waters and surrounding peaks were mesmerising. The drive was thrilling, with rugged paths and spectacular scenery. Moreover, we had a picnic by the lake, snapped countless photos, and soaked in the serene beauty with friends. It was a truly memorable experience.

Day 2: Discovering Dhankar Monastery and Pin Valley National Park

The next morning, we set out for Dhankar Monastery, dramatically perched above where the Spiti and Pin rivers meet. Also, the views of the valley were breathtaking, and the monastery’s unique architecture and peaceful vibe left us in awe. Moreover, we delved into its ancient halls, soaked in its history, and found ourselves rewarded with stunning vistas from the top.

Afterwards, we ventured to Pin Valley National Park, a paradise for nature lovers. The park, home to endangered species like the snow leopard, offered a serene escape with its lush landscapes and clear skies. Further, we took a short trek, delighted in the park’s natural beauty, and enjoyed spotting local wildlife. It was the perfect way to unwind and connect with nature.
Day 3: Ending the Journey at Lhalung Monastery

On our final day, we visited Lhalung Monastery, one of Spiti Valley’s oldest and most fascinating sites.Also, famous for its intricate wall paintings and statues, the monastery captivated us with its beautiful artwork and rich cultural history. Moreover, we took our time exploring, soaking in the serene atmosphere, and reflecting on our incredible journey through Spiti Valley. It was the perfect, peaceful conclusion to our adventure.
Must know: Food and snacks cost 1,000 INR per person per day. For three people over three days, the total was 9,000 INR. Also, local transportation was approximately 5,000 INR, and miscellaneous expenses were around 1,000 INR.
Beyond the Mountains: Spiti Valley Tips:
- Best Season to Visit: May to October is ideal, with accessible roads and pleasant weather.
- Weather: mild summers but chilly nights; harsh and cold winters.
- Essential Packing: Bring warm clothes, comfy shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, basic medicines, and a good camera for stunning views.
- Pro Tips: Acclimatise to high altitudes to prevent sickness, stay hydrated, and start with light activities. Carry cash, as ATMs are rare.
- Challenges: Prepare for long journeys and rough roads. Ensure your vehicle is in top shape and be aware of limited connectivity. Inform someone of your travel plans.
